Honda CBR250R Summary

The Honda CBR250R is Honda's 250cc single-cylinder sportbike that competes with the other fully faired machines in a similar price bracket. The 2018 model year CBR250R has two big changes: one, it is now BS4 compliant, and two, there is an LED headlamp. The rest of the motorcycle stays unchanged other than a tweak to the shape of the headlamp. It will be available in two colours - orange and green. The green was on display at the Auto Expo and is reminiscent of the Hornet's colour and graphics combination. The engine remains a 249cc fuel-injected single that is liquid cooled with 26bhp and 23Nm running through a six-speed gearbox. Braking is delivered by a 296mm front disc and 220mm rear disc. As always, ABS with CBS will be an option. The 2018 Honda CBR250R will compete with the TVS Apache RR310, KTM RC200, Yamaha Fazer 25, and Bajaj Pulsar RS200.

Honda CBR250R Review

  • Good Things

    • The 250cc motor is quite refined and punchy
    • Striking LED headlamp design
    • Comfortable riding stance
  • Could be Better

    • One of the most expensive in the segment
    • Lacks low end torque

BikeWale's Take

A very capable bike for touring and an excellent bike to enter the quarter-litre segment. However, the motorcycle has been long overdue for an major update and is also pricey compared to its rivals.

The bike is light in weight and it feels safe and fun to ride in the city and highway. The mileage of the bike is also around 40kmpl and the power bike produce is just phenomenal. As a Honda company, the reliability is awesome and it will just be counted as a long-term investment as we can easily use the bike for more than 5 years without any issue.

The Honda CBR250R is a popular sportbike known for its blend of performance, comfort, and fuel efficiency. With a 249cc single-cylinder engine, it strikes a balance between power and economy. The bike's design is sporty and eye-catching, featuring sharp lines and a full fairing that resembles its larger supersport siblings.
One of the key highlights of the CBR250R is its user-friendly nature. The bike is well-suited for both beginners and experienced riders, offering a comfortable riding position and manageable power delivery. The fuel injection system ensures smooth throttle response, contributing to a pleasant riding experience.
In terms of performance, the CBR250R delivers adequate power for city commuting and highway cruising. While it may not be the fastest in its class, it excels in fuel efficiency, making it a practical choice for riders who prioritize cost-effective transportation. The six-speed transmission is smooth, allowing for seamless gear changes.

I've been using CBR250R ABS for more than half a decade now. I'll categorize my review: Performance: The bike is smooth initially (typical Honda) but as soon as you cross 6K rpm, the Bike shoots a boost of power. The torque is really good from the mid to high range, particularly from 6K to 9K, The front wheel wants to lift & I get goosebumps. The Honda engine is very smooth, stress-free & reliable, never got broken or overheated thanks to liquid cooling, zero problems with the radiator. Breaks: I bought the ABS version, It gets Nissin calipers which are one the Top best breaks in terms of quality & reliability in the segment, The breaks never ever disappoint me unless the tyres are bad.

      Yash Patange

1.It costed inr 1.8 lakh to buy at authorized showroom 2. It is suitable for riding at open spaces...Not for daily commuting basically 3. Looks are dashing... Performance is good 4. Servicing and maintaining would burn half of your daily income 5. Pros:- good for racing, cons:- too expensive and heavy to take u-turn and maintaining.

I bought my bike at planet honda dasarahalli as i had a friend working there. Booking experience was good but the delivery of the vehicle was delayed too much. Speaking about the riding experience its the smoothest 250 you'll ever drive. It just glides on the road. It looks more like 600 than a 250.Grabs attention soon. Performance on the highway is the best in a cbr250r. Servicing and maintenance is a little bit of problem because there are only 3 honda authorized service centres in bangalore. The basic maintenance like brake pads cost 2000 per pair where as the same sized brake pads cost 600 from bajaj.

Change oil after 6000kms and the continental tyres on the CBR offer very less wet grip. Michelin's are better.

      1. I am always a pulsar lover I had a Rs200. But I think to buy a CBR 250R for its refined engine and less vibration. But it was a big disaster to me.
      2. While I am ride this bike my wrist got pain in within 5 minutes for its handle vibration. When I rev this bike I think I rev a splender not a 250cc engine. This is not a rev happy bike like pulsar or any other sports bike. Being a 250 cc engine it can touch only 145km/h. But being a 200cc my pulsar RS200 can touch 146km/h easy. Everybody says that bajaj's gearbox is bad it sometime stuck when you up or down shift your gear. I also agree with them. If bajaj's gearbox is bad then CBR250r's gearbox is worst. It always stuck. I went for a long ride with my cbr around 400km. My left leg is getting pain for its gear stuck. In city I got 23kmpl.
      3. In looks its very eye-catching. But I think it is outdated.
      4. Pros. Road presence
Cons. All things you think are cons.

Stay away from honda cbr-250r bs4 editions.

Beware it’s just the name honda sells in india not a quality product or service now a days.I am already a victim of this, so just sharing my experience. Most of the ownership reviews you find online are for older editions which make you fall for cbr250r if you like refinement. So does most of the bike rental services like wicked ride or drivezy have older 2016-17 editions and they are awesome to experience. That was my validation & research before i bought the cbr on may 10th 2019. (cbr 250r sep 2018 manufactured)Issues i faced from day 1 of bike delivery are:1.Heavy engine vibrations due to slipped engine mount bolts also they replaced rocker arm, cam, shims & sprocket set to address overall vibrations. 2.Handle wobbling between 70-80 kmph, they replaced cone set assembly and didn’t resolve the issue. It seems they are defective tyres, they replaced rear tyre still issue not resolved.3.Metal clicking noise from frames and under tank. Issue was addressed by applying foam tape between frame (chassis) and tank and side body panels.4.Asc damaged radiator during water wash- which they had to replace after a fight proving their incompetence. Most of the new bs4 cbrs have these vibrations issues just check any cbr forum on fb or online.. In a nutshell you might be lucky to get a good unit. However, ascs service competence is crap. You will suffer with their trial and error method of fixing issues. They trust in your patience to cover their incompetence. My 79 days old cbr250 r spent 30 days in ascs - 8 attempts - still handle wobbling issue is not fixed.Hmsi blr regional head is also aligned for this since 3 weeks for last 3 attempts.

Attractive look of new cbr 250r

Buying experience was all good. So easily i got the bike.Riding this bike is awesome, but it could be better than awesome if this bike has more torque.Looks are very attractive and performance could be better if they added some new technology like ktm.Servicing and maintenance is good.
