KTM’s new middleweight motorcycle spied testing

Over the last two years, KTM has been focusing a lot on two ends of the motorcycle spectrum –  entry- level like the KTM 390 and the premium end like the Super Duke 1290 R. However, the Austrian manufacturer is quite eager to bridge the gap by developing new V-Twin engines and one of its prototypes was spied testing.

KTM has confirmed that it will discontinue the 690 Enduro and the 690 SMC R motorcycles, which will be replaced by these new V-Twin engines. The spied prototype looks quite similar to the 690 Enduro, leading us to believe that there might not be any drastic cosmetic changes in the upcoming middleweight motorcycles. The KTM test mule was seen testing along the BMW GS800, which is its closest competitor. The Austrian manufacturer has announced that its new range of V-Twin engines will range between 600cc and 800cc. So we can expect to see more than two or three motorcycles from this range. 

KTM hasn’t given a time frame for the launch of these new middleweight bikes, but we can expect one of the models to make its way to the EICMA 2015. These new engines will also power the Husqvarna range of new bikes . This will help the Austrian manufacturer leverage their research and development department for its sister company.
