Ducati achieves record sales in 2014

2014 turned out to be a good year for Ducati as the company reported a two per cent rise in global sales. Ducati sold 45,100 motorcycles in the last year, making 2014 the fifth consecutive year of growth for the Italian marque.

Ducati has attributed their growth to the new Monster 1200 and Monster 821 motorcycles. The Monster series of motorcycles turned out to be the bread and butter for Ducati as the company sold 16,409 units of the naked motorcycles, which is 31 per cent more than what they managed in 2013. Among the company’s faster breed, the new 899 Panigale was the top selling fully-faired superbike.

US continued to be Ducati’s top market with a total 8,804 motorcycles delivered to customers in 2014. Local CKD production in South America helped the company boost its sales in the region, especially in Brazil. The company reported a marginal decline in sales in Europe, though the de-growth was counterbalanced with a double-digit growth in the UK. Asian and Australian markets also witnessed a double digit growth.

Ducati released an official statement saying: “This increase also stemmed from the introduction of new products that, despite market uncertainty, made a clear contribution to what has been an outstanding result for Ducati.”

Ducati recently confirmed that it was going to re-enter the Indian market in the next couple of months. While the company’s previous venture in India failed due to a poor sales and service network, this time the company seems determined to grab a bite of the world’s second largest two-wheeler market.
