Yamaha Motor India is bringing a quarter litre motorcycle to India. The company has sent BikeWale an invite for a launch at the Buddh International Circuit, making us believe it’s the YZF-R3 that will be launched on that day.
Since its global unveil in Indonesia, the Indian enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting to get their hands on the YZF-R3. However, the Japanese manufacturer was focussed on capturing the Indian scooter market with the products such as the Ray Z and the Alpha. Yamaha announced that it will focus only on scooters till 2015. But looks like the day is finally here.
While there were rumours of the YZF-R25 making its way to the Indian shores, a source has confirmed that it is the R3 which will eventually end up in the Indian market. Cosmetically, the YZF-R3 looks identical to the YZF-R25 that was unveiled in early 2014. It is built around the same lightweight tubular steel diamond type frame. It is powered by a 321cc, in-line twin cylinder engine which develops 40.5bhp and 29.6Nm of torque, through a six-speed gearbox.
We are expecting the Yamaha YZF-R3 to be priced somewhere between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 3.5 lakh and to directly compete with the Kawasaki Ninja 300, which is being sold India since the last 24 months.
Stay tuned to BikeWale as we get you pictures and price of the Yamaha YZF-R3.
