2022 Honda CB400X vs KTM 390 Adventure: Specification Comparison

Honda recently launched the 2022 edition of the CB400X in its home country, Japan. The motorcycle has received subtle yet purposeful updates. Considering its displacement and purpose, India’s KTM 390 Adventure is the closest rival to the CB400X. In case you’re curious to know which one’s better on paper, here’s the specification comparison.

Features

With goodies like traction control and a bi-directional quick shifter on offer, the KTM 390 Adventure has a clear edge in this department. The Austrian contender also gets a fancy full-colour TFT display that gets Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone pairing. Meanwhile, the Honda CB400X makes do with an LCD display and misses out on the Bluetooth feature. The lighting setup, meanwhile, is full LED.

Engine

The CB400X’s engine, with its parallel twin-cylinder setup, should be smoother and more tractable than the 390 ADV’s single-cylinder mill. The former is powered by a 399cc, liquid-cooled engine that churns out 45.4bhp of power at 9,000rpm and 38Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm. Whereas, the KTM 390 Adventure runs on a 373cc unit that makes 42.3bhp at 9,000rpm and 37Nm at 7,000rpm. Both bikes get a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch.

Hardware

Honda is one step ahead even in terms of cycle parts. While both bikes get upside down forks at the front, the CB400X gets preload adjustability that’s not offered in the 390 Adventure. Moreover, Honda has equipped CB with the dual disc at the front, as opposed to the KTM’s single disc brake. However, the 390 Adventure gets the option to switch off the ABS in the rear wheel while the CB gets standard dual-channel ABS. Although the Honda sports more premium components, the KTM should be more agile and manageable owing to its 177kg kerb weight; around 20kg lesser than the CB400X.

Price

The KTM 390 Adventure is cheaper than the Honda CB400X by a huge margin. While the former retails for Rs 3.28 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) here in India, the prices of the latter start at 8,58,000 yen (approximately Rs 5.72 lakh) in Japan.
