Introduction
If one country knows how to make good-looking scoters, it has to be Italy. The Italians are known for their scooters and it seems like they want to have a share of the scooter market segment in India as well. The premium superbike manufacturer Aprilia just unveiled their to-be ‘made in India’ offering the SR 150 at the Auto Expo 2016.
Here is a detailed specification comparison of the two Italian scooters.
Design & Engine
The Piaggio Vespa SXL 150 looks very similar to its 125cc sibling – the S 125. However, in order to make the SXL150 look more appealing, the Italian manufacturer has added a couple of new elements. The fascia looks refreshing, thanks to the redesigned front. Just like the Vespa S, the SXL gets the same rectangular headlight cluster that gives it a retro appearance. Complementing this new look are the blacked-out alloy wheels and the new digital instrument cluster.
On the other hand, the design on the Aprilia SR 150 looks to be biased only to the sportier side. The sharp body lines, sporty riding position, aggressive front end and the blacked-out 14-inch alloy wheels only show its sporty nature. The red and black colour combination also further enhance its sporty appearance.
The Piaggio Vespa SXL 150 has a 150cc engine which makes 11.4bhp at 7000rpm and 11.5Nm of torque at 5500rpm. The Vespa is also mated to a CVT gearbox.
The Aprilia SR 150 is expected to get a similar engine as the Vespa making similar power figures.
Cycle parts
In terms of equipment, the scooter seem to be equally stacked up with the feature list. The Aprilia SR 150 gets the upper hand in terms of performance with the larger wheels. While the Vespa speedometer gets a digital dash compared to the analogue equipped Aprilia.
The Aprilia comes with a sportier stance compared to the classic stance of the Piaggio.
Price
The Piaggio Vespa SXL 150 is priced at Rs 89,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). The Aprilia SR 150 will be locally manufactured at Piaggio’s facility in Maharashtra, which means that it might be priced around Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh. The Aprilia SR 150 will be launched in India in August 2016.
