Mathana Kumar and V Abhishek both secure first place in Race 1 and Race 2 of the Honda CBR250 one-make championship. The season opener was held at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore.
The Honda Ten10 Racing rider Kumar got a good start and maintained his spot throughout the 10-lap race to win Race 1 of the weekend. Race 2 winner Abhishek was right on his tail till he messed up and finished in eight position. His mistake meant the second spot was open for the taking, Rajiv Sethu took it after passing third-placed Kishore V on the final lap.
The Indian rider was chased by Abhishek K closely, but a mistake from him meant he dropped behind to 11th before recovering to finish LP eighth.
Abhishek took victory in Race 2 after it was red-flagged and shortened to just six laps after Rajiv running in second crashed out in the first corner. The Chennai-based driver lost his front brake and went straight into the tyre barrier at the end straight. He suffered a hip injury and classified second with Kumar taking third. All riders were awarded half points as a result.
Anish D. Shetty took first place in Race 1 and Race 2 of the MMSC-Honda CBR150 Novice category. Shreyas Shankar took third in Race 1 and second place in Race 2. Mahesh Murali took second in Race 1 and Shane Thompson took third in Race 2.
