According to a source, BMW Motorrad is set to bring its all-new India-manufactured G310R in the Indian market in October 2016. The German manufacturer is also set to bring its entire range of bikes which includes models like the S1000RR and the K1600.
It appears as if BMW is also looking for a piece of the growing premium motorcycle market in India. This means the German company will have to price its motorcycles competitively, which should not prove to be difficult since the company manufactures many of its motorcycles at an integrated plant in Rayong, Thailand.
Expected prices? Expect the entry-level 310cc BMW G310R to be priced between Rs 2 lakh and 2.4 lakh. It is powered by a 313cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. This engine churns out 34bhp at 9500rpm and has a peak torque of 28Nm at 7500rpm. It is mated to a six-speed gearbox. Coming to the foreign motorcycles, the Thailand assembled nakeds which are F800R and the S1000R are expected to be priced around Rs 9 lakh and Rs 14 lakh respectively.
The supersport S1000RR which is BMW’s fastest litre class bike is expected to priced somewhere between Rs 16 lakh and Rs 18 lakh, which seems like a great deal thanks to the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Expect the R1200GS to be priced somewhere between Rs 19 lakh and Rs 20 lakh which isn’t so bad considering the capabilities of the motorcycle.
These ‘reasonable’ prices are expected because these motorcycles will be imported from Thailand under the FTA. German-built models like the R nineT and the K1600 variants will continue to have sky-high prices.
