Among the slew of motorcycles unveiled at the Intermot 2016, the one which has got us excited the most is the 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 650. Featuring substantial technological upgrades, a redesigned chassis and some serious weight loss, this new generation Ninja 650 is a major step up over the previous model. While the previous Kawasaki Ninja 650 featured a conservative and ageing design, the ZX-10R-inspired styling on the 2017 bike gives it sporty undertones.

The new manually adjustable windscreen, lowered seat and handlebar and the larger LCD instrument console improve the new Ninja 650’s usability.

Under the skin, the Ninja 650 retains the tried and tested 649cc parallel-twin engine in a Euro-IV compliant avatar.

While the power output has been dropped from 71bhp to 69bhp, performance shouldn’t be affected as the new Ninja 650 is 19 kilograms lighter than the older bike.

It is now underpinned by a tubular aluminium chassis and new swingarm, which played an important role in the weight loss apart from aiding the bike’s handling.

Kawasaki has also replaced the offset rear monoshock with a conventionally positioned swing arm linked unit.

The Kawasaki Ninja 650’s brake setup has also been upgraded with new Nissin callipers and a Bosch 9.1 ABS system.

The Ninja 650 is available in four colours – KRT green, black, white and orange, though we can expect it to be launched here only in green.
