KTM unveils ADAC Cup race spec RC390 motorcycle

KTM has unveiled the fully-faired version of the Duke 390, called the RC390; it is race spec model that will be used for the ADAC Junior cup. The motorcycle was unveiled at the Moto GP event in Germany at the Sachsenring circuit last week.

The production version of the RC390 will be unveiled later this year at the 2014 EICMA event in Italy and will go on sale in early 2014. The RC390 race spec motorcycle is powered by a 373cc single cylinder engine that churns out 38PS of power, 5PS less than its naked street production model. This race spec model looks very sharp and aggressive and thanks to its purpose, the Austrian maker has tried to use components that will help the machine perform wonders on the track. It has been fitted with an Akrapovic titanium silencer complete with regulated catalytic converter.

We can expect the production version of the RC390 to be inspired from this motorcycle and will share some design and components from it.  The KTM Duke 390 is manufactured at Bajaj’s Chakan facility near Pune and is exported. Once launched, we can expect the RC390 to also be manufactured in the same facility. This should make the company price it very competitively as is the case for the Duke 390 which was recently launched for Rs 1.8 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

"We have developed a pure GP racing machine for the Moto3 World Championship. In contrast, the RC390 Cup is based on a series model project. Both of these two projects were given the highest priority because the development of lower displacement, high quality street bikes are among our core activities. The new KTM RC390, which will be available for sale in 2014 will meet a big demand for affordable, quality sport bikes for the lower displacement class," said Stefan Pierer, CEO, KTM.
