BBIN motor agreement to permit driving vehicles across national borders

According to the Bangladesh, Bhutan, India & Nepal (BBIN) motor agreement, vehicles can soon be driven across national borders. This includes passenger and commercial vehicles.

The motor vehicle agreement will permit the free movement of vehicles meaning seamless transport between the countries. The Motor Vehicle pact was signed today by the Transport Ministers of all four countries in Thimpu. This agreement aims to provide safe, economical efficient and environmentally sound road transport in the region, with each country benefitting by the mutual cross-border movement of passenger and goods.

The Union Cabinet had approved the agreement earlier this month. At first commercial buses will start plying in the region and each country will levy a toll for entry of vehicles from the other country. Later more commercial vehicles will be allowed followed by passenger vehicles. This means trading will get enhanced with effective cross border barter of goods between countries.
