Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is hoping to become India’s largest two-wheeler company by increasing manufacturing capacity to 10 million units annually by 2020. HMSI plans to bring the prices down of their products by increasing localisation.

“Our dream is to have an installed capacity of 10 million by 2019-20, but it will be subject to external conditions,” said Y.S. Guleria, vice-president, sales and marketing. “We will need at least four-five new plants to reach there”. HMSI’s Manesar plant has a capacity of 1.6 million units annually, while that of the Tapukara plant is 1.2 million. The upcoming plant in Karnataka will have the capacity of produce 1.2 million units per year initially.

HMSI plans to hire 3000-4000 people for the new plant which will take their total worker strength to 13000-14000.
