Yamaha Fazer 250 likely to be offered with ABS during launch

Japanese bike maker, Yamaha had been working on the new Fazer 250 for the Indian market for quite a while now. Expected to be launched in the last quarter this year, the upcoming bike is likely to get anti-lock braking system (ABS) as a standard. Interestingly, offering the safety equipment as a standard will make them the first ones to do so in the segment. Effective from 1st April, 2018 all new motorbikes above 125cc will have to be sold with an ABS system in the country.

Recently, Yamaha introduced the FZ25 in India, but it does not get the ABS system even as an option. The upcoming Fazer 250 will share the 249cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine from the FZ25 which generates 20bhp of power and 20Nm of peak torque at 6,000rpm. Along with the Automatic Headlamp On (AHO) function as a standard, the new Fazer might also get a monoshock rear suspension and an all-digital instrument console.

Although the pricing aspect is not known for now, we believe that Yamaha Fazer 250 will be priced around Rs 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Post launch, it will compete against the likes of KTM Duke 250, Bajaj Pulsar 220 and the Hero Karizma ZMR. Post launch, Yamaha stands a chance to attract a fair share of prospective buyers as no other bikemaker has any plans of offering the ABS as a standard anytime soon.
