Triumph Thruxton First Look Review
Triumph Motorcycle recently revealed their new Bonneville Range and the iconic Thruxton café racer was also a part of the reveal. Built on the same platform as the Bonneville, the Thruxton caters to a segment that demands classic styling along with very good performance.
Just like the outgoing Thruxton, Triumph is marketing the new one as a modern classic sport motorcycle and it makes sense. What Triumph has done is that they have stuck to the classic café racer design language and has mated this aspect to a high performance engine and latest technologies.
The new Thruxton is now powered by a new 1200cc parallel twin engine that produces 112Nm at 4950rpm – 62 per cent more than the previous generation Thruxton that was powered by a much smaller engine. Triumph claims that this new engine features a lighter crank, higher compression ratio and unique airbox design. The Thruxton gets Triumph’s next generation ride-by-wire fuel injection fed by twin throttle bodies.
The new Thruxton is loaded with technology like ABS, traction control and rider modes which have three modes – rain, road and sport. Engine immobiliser is standard, just like the headstock mounted USB charger. The instrument cluster of the new Thruxton displays tons of information like gear position indicator, odometer, two trip settings, service indicator, distance to empty indicator, average and current fuel consumption and also offers access to turn off traction control and ABS.
The new Triumph Thruxton is sold three colours – jet black, pure white with a black tank stripe and competition green with a metallic gold tank stripe. Triumph Motorcycles will showcase the new Thruxton at the 2016 Auto Expo, followed by a launch in the next couple of months. We are hoping that the British manufacturer offers the same features for the India-spec Thruxton model as it does for the global model.
