The F650GS is the most affordable dual-sport motorcycle from the BMW line-up. It was launched to replace the single-cylinder model but the German manufacturer decided to carry on the F650GS due to its strong brand. However, it led to confusion in International market as it was 800cc motorcycle.
The overall design cues of the F650GS have been inspired from its big brother, the R1200GS. Its rugged look, 10-spoke alloy wheels, asymmetrical headlamp unit, beefy exhaust can makes the bike look standout from the rest of the big bikes in India. It goes an old school indicator system where the switches are located on both site of the handlebar. The German gets the 41mm telescopic suspension at the front which has lot of travel for its off-road capabilities and fully adjustable monoshock at the rear.
The F650GS is powered by a 798cc parallel-twin water cooled 4-stroke DOHC engine that produces 71bhp at 7000rpm and maximum torque of 75Nm at 45000rpm. This engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox with one down and five up gearshift pattern. This gearbox transfers power to the real wheel through a chain drive.
Currently, the bike is sold through BMW dealers in India but the bike is expected to be discontinued to make its way for the F700GS. This motorcycle is for someone who is looking to experience the world of off-roading and touring but it won’t come cheap. The F650GS competes with the Triumph Tiger 800XC which feels more value for money now because of its service availability in major metro cities.
The ARAI mileage of BMW F650 is 22 kmpl.
