Purchased the coveted 850gs after 3 years of dreaming about it. The default seat presents a bit of a challenge to me at 175cm. The ride so far has been excellent albeit the weight does show considerably on climbs and challenging terrains.
Overall a great buy considering the competition is almost 3l higher on road.
Overall extremely happy owner.

After 25 years, I went back to riding a motorcycle. I have a honda highness 350 for my regular commute and was exploring an adventure bike for long tours. I researched all adventure bikes starting from 500cc, 650cc, 800-900cc, 1000cc, and 1200-1250cc bikes. My riding needs are 90% on-road and occasional offroad. I don't ride higher than 110kp/h and most of the time ride at 95-100km/h.
Keeping the above in mind, I chose BMW F850 GS. The ride height was high for me (175cm), so opted for a low seat seat from the showroom. This brings the height to 820mm and it is perfect. The bike is just awesome. Plush ride, adequate power, and good fuel economy. The bike's weight is high, but we have to manage it by making some changes to our driving habits.
I have done over 8000 kms on the bike and really love it.
