BMW G 310 R [2021] Summary

The BMW G 310 R is now more affordable than the 2019 model and yet gets additional features and slight styling revisions that add value to the package. The biggest update is the inclusion of LED lighting for the headlamp, turn signals and tail lamp. And as part of the 2020 update, BMW has also added new colours to the G 310 R’s palette.

To begin with, there is the Style Sport colour that costs a premium over the other options. It comprises of a dark grey colour with hints of white on the headlamp and side panels. Moreover, the paint scheme also features a bright red frame, wheels, and graphics. The other paint scheme is Cosmic Black that includes a black base colour with white on the side panels and headlamp cowl. The third paint is called Polar White infuses BMW’s signature blue and white colour scheme.

As for features, the G 310 R now gets adjustable clutch and brake levers along with a ride-by-wire throttle. The 312cc, single-cylinder engine is now BS6-compliant and churns out 34bhp at 9,500rpm and 28Nm at 7,000rpm- the same figures as the outgoing model. However, the engine which is paired to a six-speed gearbox now gets an assist and slipper clutch as standard. On the other hand, the cycle parts on the G 310 R remain unaltered.

In terms of competition, the motorcycle will go head on against the KTM 390 Duke and the Honda CB300R.

BMW G 310 R [2021] Review

  • Good Things

    • Great city riding position
    • The brakes are really good
  • Could be Better

    • Engine vibrations at higher revs
    • Expensive to maintain
    • Limited service reach

BikeWale's Take

The G 310 R has almost all the qualities of being a BMW motorcycle. It has good quality components with a fit and finish to match, good braking setup and a comfortable riding position. The new bike has been finally priced really well, but the after sales continues to be on the expensive side.

      1. Buying experience was kind of bad, the showroom located in Indore took 5-6 hours to do the paperwork and formalities. But it depends upon the individual showroom, in other showrooms you might get the bike in 1-2 hours as well.
      2. Great riding experience. I would give a solid 9 Or 9.5 out of 10. Great for city ride and highways as well, Sharp Assist and Slipper clutch helps in quick shifting.
      3. Looks... 11 out of 10.. All-day long. Everybody keeps looking at me when I pass by. (Hey, It's BMW bike, Hey, BMW BMW, people have even stopped me while riding and asked me about the price and riding experience (
      4. Servicing can be done at both showroom or at your house as well, the nearest showroom for me is Indore which is 312km from my place, So Showroom owner sent his executive for service at my place.
It's BMW so the service will be costlier than other brands, but it's okay. It will cost you roughly around 6-7k INR.
      5. PROS - Very quick throttle Response, Ultra-comfortable seats and Riding posture (won't hurt your back even in long tours), I am 5'8", but even 5'3" people can easily ride this bcoz seat height is perfect.
Muscular look, couldn't get any better.
CONS - Gear shifts could have been softer, they are kinda hard.
Needs TFT display, its other rivals have given TFT display RC390, RR310 etc.

Waste of Money for the Badge

It has many problems which BMW is not considering or bothered about. The major problem is with Engine overheating. The bike stops all of a sudden in the middle of the road because engine temperature increases even if you ride for a short distance which is not expected from BMW. Everything like the cost of bikes, spares, accessories, and service cost is expensive when compared to other bikes in the same segment. Not at all suitable for long rides. The battery drains out quickly and the stock wouldn't be available at the showroom when required. Engine breakdown is a big problem and it is difficult to take the bike to the service center in emergency cases as we have fewer service centers for BMW.

Keep the fuel tank full all the time to avoid fuel pump problems Ride at low RPM to avoid engine overheating Change engine oil for every 7-8k kms instead of 10k kms as it requires service sooner than mentioned in the manual. Keep checking coolant Keep the radiator exhaust system clean for easy airflow.

Poor gearbox saw this type of messed up gearbox
      Lots of transmission issues
      Poor service experience
Battery issues with many g310r and 310 gs owners including me.
And service centers don't help due to a lack of batteries and spare parts
Bikes are at the service center for weeks but no one knows when they will be fixed.
      Overcharge for everything.

It's very easy to purchase the bike. BMW Motorrad staff is very helpful to purchase the bike. I have booked my bike from the home. They have completed all paperwork by themselves. It's a very joyful experience of riding the bike. BMW g310r has a very good pickup with a powerful engine. It has very good mileage on the highway it gives around 35 to 40 kmpl. But in the city area mileage is around 20 to 25 kmpl. It looks very attractive to people. I've not done any service till now. BMW motorrad has fewer service stations. Other than that I have very good experience with BMW motorrad.

      The Perfect 300cc...

      Visakh Wiz

      1. It is my first bike and as a person who was upgrading from an Activa, this felt just perfect for me...It is a Beginner friendly machine...
      2. Riding experience is just out of the world...This bike along with its sibling the GS310 has got the best seats on a single cylinder bike so far, even better than Himalayan which is indeed a comfortable bike to ride...This seats are so well padded and also has got a lot of space... Pillion comfort is also very good...It has got a good ergonomics...Long distance touring are just easy and you won't fell any tiredness even if u take a 2-3 hours continuous ride without any breaks...the bike just goes with it...
      3. Looks were the first thing that caught my attention...I can't just define how beautiful this bike is... Performance is just mind blowing... probably this is the best single cylinder 300cc bike you would get in the market today...The power is beginner friendly for riders who lack experience...It has got a lot of features and safety equipments...it has got adjustable clutch and brake levers, a digital instrument cluster with tons of data's, slip and assist clutch, dual channel ABS, all LED lights(headlamp, tail lamp & indicators), etc...and the best is the clutch assist feature which helps us to move our bike automatically in a small speed without using the accelerator that too in all gears, this helps us in tight traffic's a lot...the mileage is also decent for a 300cc, I get around 35km/l on my normal riding style both in city and highways mixed... This bike is an Eye catcher in every aspects...this bike is a true combination of "THE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST"...
      4. Maintenance is a bit on the expensive side as compared to other single cylinder bikes and some twin cylinder bikes...the price for parts and other accessories comes in a premium...but when it comes to service, the service cost is more when compared to others but it is justifiable... because, the service period is more, like we just needs to do our services once in 10000Km's or 1 Year(whichever comes first), where as others comes around 6000Km's or 6 Months I think... After all its a BMW and there will be a premium obviously, so the prices are well justifiable...
      5. I don't have much on Pros cause I have already said that, but some of the one down sides I have noticed is that...firstly, it has a slight vibrations on the handle bar and the foot pegs when we go on higher RPM's or Redline it... secondly, it would have been better if it gets a better set of tyres like in RR310... thirdly, the no of service centers are low and lastly I'm not a huge fan of that exhaust design, but the sound's are dope, especially when we rev high...
So, This is my user experience or ownership review...and I'm so much Satisfied with the bike...

      Tips for other riders

Just maintain your bike perfectly...wash it well and chain lube once in 500Km's... check tyre pressures frequently and change tyres when the time comes, better go with Michelin Road 5's or Apollo Alpha H1, Pirelli's are much more expensive but are the best...service on correct time...

Best bike in this price range for every type of use.

      Aryan Patil

It's the best naked bike I could think of in this price range but it's expensive based on it's service charge. Also it only gives around 20 km/h in traffic or in city which makes it expensive for use in city given that price of petrol is at it's peak nowadays. But in place with less traffic or less movement on road it gives 30 km/l.

Tyre aren't that reliable so would recommend changing it, if you are riding in hills or in rain as they don't have much of a grip on road and on high speeds like above 80 or 100 km/hr
