The BMW R nineT Racer is based on the standard R nineT but sports a café racer design with a neo-retro appeal. The bike unmistakeably draws inspiration from the ‘70s motorsport bikes with the half-fairing mounted on the frame which exposes the bike’s engine and integrates the round headlamp.
The R nineT Racer also gets a seat cowl which is reminiscent of the early motorcycle racing days. The bike also offers a slightly aggressive riding position thanks to the low-slung handlebars and rear set foot pegs. To boost its vintage appeal, the R nineT Racer gets BMW’s Motorsport livery that runs all the way from the fairing to the seat cowl. It also features a twin pod classic-looking analogue instrument console with small digital displays.
At the heart of the BMW R nineT Racer is a 1170cc air-cooled twin-cylinder boxer engine. It produces 110bhp at 7,750rpm and 116Nm of torque at 6,000rpm via a six-speed gearbox and final shaft drive.
Suspension duties are taken care of by 43mm conventional telescopic forks for the front and a preload adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is done by twin 320mm discs up front and a 265mm single disc for the rear wheel. However, the R nineT Racer is not as electronically equipped as the standard R nineT and only gets ABS as standard. BMW offers their ASC (Automatic Stability Control) traction control as an option on the bike.
The BMW R nineT Racer is priced at Rs 17.30 lakhs (ex-showroom). It competes with the Triumph Thruxton R in India.
