BMW Motorrad has finally unveiled the much awaited adventure version of the R1300 GS. This top-spec model has been designed for riders who love to ride off-road and also cross country.
The R 1300 GS Adventure looks quite different from the R1300 GS as it gets a more boxy and functional design. It has more squared-off edges, be it at the beak under the headlight, the fuel tank or the tail section. The major differentiation factor is the presence of a 30-litre fuel tank that will allow the rider to ride for a much longer distance.
The bike is built around a sheet metal main frame and an aluminium lattice tube rear frame. This is suspended by BMW’s Telelever and Paralever EVO suspension units. The suspension can be electronically adjusted and Dynamic Suspension Adjustment or DSA is standard. The system combines the dynamic adjustment of the front and rear damping with adjustment of the spring rate, depending on which ride mode the bike is being ridden in.
This ADV gets many new features like all-LED lights with aux lights, Dynamic Traction Control, radar-based adaptive cruise control, and front and rear collision warning. There is also a smartphone charging compartment with an integrated USB socket and 12 V on-board power socket as standard. The talking point, however, is the new Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) that the bike gets. It consists of two electromechanical actuators to automate clutch control and shifting gears. This takes away the effort of changing gears constantly thereby reducing rider fatigue.
This bike gets its power from a 1,300cc, Boxer twin which makes 145bhp at 7,750rpm and 149Nm at 6,500rpm. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox. There are four ride modes- Eco, Rain, Road and Enduro to temper the power delivery and adjust the traction control intervention levels.
BMW Motorrad is likely to price this model around Rs 25 lakh, making it one of the most expensive bikes in the segment.
