With the 1299 Panigale, Ducati has whizzed past the 200bhp mark for a production motorcycle for the first time. While most of the mechanicals of the 1299 Panigale have been borrowed from the 1199 Panigale, this bike gets a more powerful engine and an advanced electronics package.
Aesthetically, the Ducati 1299 Panigale stays true to its roots, though it does a wider fairing and a larger windshield.[FV1] The air scoops have been redesigned to offer better ventilation while the rear section gets a new tail piece.
The 1299 Panigale is powered by a rebored version of the 1199 Panigale’s engine, displacing 1285cc. The engine delivers 205hp and 145Nm of torque through a six-speed gearbox. It gets a new steering head angle and 4mm lower fork pivot, which makes it more agile than the 1199 Panigale. The sophisticated electronics package includes cornering ABS, Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC), a quick shift system and an Engine Brake Control (EBC) system. The 1299 Panigale will also come equipped with Ohlins Smart EC, an event-based control system for the suspension.
The Ducati 1299 Panigale is only available in a black paint scheme. It rivals other litre-class halo products like the BMW S1000RR, Yamaha YZF-R1, Aprilia RSV4 and the MV Agusta F4.
