Ducati DesertX Summary

Price: Ducati DesertX price for its variant - DesertX Standard starts at Rs. 18,33,200. The price for the other variant - DesertX Rally is Rs. 23,70,800. The mentioned DesertX prices are the average ex-showroom.

Ducati DesertX is a adventure bike available in 2 variants and 2 colours. The Ducati DesertX is powered by 937cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 108.6 bhp and a torque of 92 Nm. With both front and rear disc brakes, Ducati DesertX comes up with anti-locking braking system. This DesertX bike weighs 223 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 21 liters.

The Ducati DesertX is an off-road focussed adventure-tourer motorcycle that will rival the likes of the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally and the Honda Africa Twin in the Indian market.

The motorcycle draws styling cues from the concept motorcycle that was showcased in 2019. Thus, it comes with a twin-pod headlight, a tall windscreen, a semi-fairing design, a 21-litre fuel tank, split-style seats, side-slung exhaust, bash plate, and tubeless-tyre compatible wire-spoke wheels. As aforementioned, this Ducati has been designed for off-roading, so it comes with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel combination shod in Pirelli-sourced Scorpion Rally STR tyres. Ducati will also offer several accessories for the new DesertX.

The feature list is premium and the Ducati DesertX comes with full-LED lighting and a Bluetooth-enabled five-inch TFT display as standard. The Ducati Multimedia System offers access to functions such as music, incoming/outgoing calls, and turn-by-turn navigation (optional). The comprehensive electronic rider aids package comprises six riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, Wet, Rally, and Enduro), four power modes (Full, High, Medium, and Low), cruise control, Bosch IMU, engine brake control, traction control, wheelie control, bidirectional quick-shifter, and cornering ABS.

The mechanical specifications include a 937cc, L-Twin, liquid-cooled engine that the DesertX shares with the Ducati Monster and Multistrada V2. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, this motor is tuned to produce a maximum output of 110bhp at 9,250rpm and a peak torque of 92Nm at 6,500rpm.

The hardware comprises KYB-sourced 46mm fully-adjustable front forks with 230mm travel and KYB fully-adjustable rear mono-shock with 220mm travel to handle the suspension tasks. Further, the anchoring setup includes twin 320mm discs with Brembo M50 monobloc radial callipers at the front and a single 265mm rotor with a Brembo double-piston floating calliper at the back.

Currently, this motorcycle is available in a single paint option in the Indian market. It rivals the likes of the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally, Honda Africa Twin, and BMW F850GS in the Indian market.

Ducati DesertX Review

  • Good Things

    • Gets excellent off-road capabilities
    • Loaded with lots of top-spec electronics
    • Engine churns out great mid-range performance
  • Could be Better

    • Priced quite high
    • Expensive to maintain

BikeWale's Take

The Desert X from Ducati is an adventure bike that is known for its Dakar inspirations. It gets styling that makes it extremely aspiring and then with its powerful engine combined with top-spec electronics makes it one exciting motorcycle to ride. However, just like the other Ducatis, the Desert X is a bit expensive to purchase and also maintain.

Ducati DesertX Expert Opinion

It’s been almost five years since Ducati unveiled the Desert X concept at EICMA Milan and I was right in front when that happened. I was truly stunned by the design of that concept and when the company finally unveiled the production version in 2021, it felt so good to see that the majority of the styling cues were carried forward to the production model.
