Introduction
Convenience and motorcycles don’t seem to go hand in hand. The storage space or the lack of it is a constant worry to most riders, regardless of the type of motorcycle they ride. No wonder the scooter space even exists. I, myself, would wear a small backpack for weekend rides and on our shoots to carry essentials, since stuffing everything in pockets isn’t an easy task nor is it safe.
Well, Carbonado seemed to have a solution to all of those concerns with the Turtle leg bag. And looking at what it is meant to do, it seems like we’ll be using it each time we get on a two-wheeler. But before that, let’s take a look at how it is built.
The Construction
Like most offerings from Carbonado, the Turtle sports a hardshell that is made from EVA- a polymer that is said to have good low-temperature toughness as well as UV radiation resistance. But as a leg pouch, this feature is unique. It adds a bit of protection for everything stuffed inside the bag while giving it a rugged appeal. It also feels soft to the touch and looks durable.
The rest of the thigh bag is made from a material that replicates a visually decent leather finish. You get a pair of adjustable straps- one that is attached to the bag for the waist and a completely removable one that would go around the thigh. Even the zips, with their tabs, feel nice to use.
But what stands out is the cover for the zip lining that looks premium and also makes the Turtle weatherproof. Mind you, it isn’t waterproof though and would keep dust and dirt away at best. That said, the back does not have any patterns and is made of soft material too which feels comfortable resting on your thigh.
The Features
Since the Turtle bag is something you’d use on regular commutes or weekend rides rather than to work, one cannot expect it to have a whole lot of space. Yet, it can surprisingly gobble up quite a few things with ease- especially in its main pocket. This could be a notebook or a Kindle, a wallet and a phone. I was also able to stuff my blood testing kit along with all of this.
The pocket comes with two compartments to keep things looking organized and neat inside. It also has a key clip that proved to be quite handy while wearing those pocket-less leather pants. What I also like was the nets on the sides that make sure nothing spills out once the bag is fully opened.
Carbonado has also added to its utility by adding an earphone outlet on the side. The bag comes with an upper compartment that is deep and can easily store a book, wallet or even your gloves if you wish to. Even more interesting is the bag's use case. Not only can it be worn around the waist, but around the shoulder too. That can be done by detaching the thigh cables easily.
What’s next?
Over the next few months, we plan on using the Carbonado Turtle nearly every day for our commutes and on shoots as well. By the looks of it, it would also make for a good companion to the convenience store trip. Would it also be a replacement for the handy, low-cost waist pouch I usually use? Let’s find out…
