Introduction
The first time I saw a KYT helmet in person was in 2019. I was attending the Thai MotoGP, and after the race, I spent an hour at the KYT stall. Why? Well, their helmets looked the coolest, and I had my eyes on the off-road one. I purchased one, and that’s where my experience with KYT began.
Fast forward to 2023, I’m about to use another KYT helmet, but this time, it was sent by the company’s India importer, who has launched a range of helmets. Vikrant has already written about the KYT NZ Race, and here, I will talk about the Jumpshot– an off-road helmet which looks quite chic.
The Off-Road helmet
The Jumpshot is one of KYT’s entry-level off-road helmets in India. This line of helmets is known for a few things, but the most important one is its styling. It is primarily sold in Asian markets, and the company is betting big in India for this range. A lot of focus has gone into getting the protection, weight, and comfort right.
The Jumpshot is made of the TRI-fibre composite. This material helps keep the overall weight in check and provides maximum protection. The company claims that it has undergone high levels of testing in various environments. As a result, this helmet is seen a lot in the MX World Championships.
This helmet weighs around 1,450gm and is ECE and ISI-certified. This makes the KYT Jumpshot one of the few international helmets to be tested and certified by ISI.
Like its full-face helmets, KYT’s off-road helmet too is available in two shell sizes – medium and large. The medium shell accommodates internal pads ranging from XS to L, whereas the large shell can carry XL and XXL pads.
The Features
The Jumpshot comes with removable inner liners. This means the cheek pad and headliner can be removed and washed separately. This KYT gets a double-D ring retention system and also an adjustable peak. And there is no need for tools to adjust the peak.
Now, the brand has taken good care of overall ventilation on this helmet. It has four openings at the front with metal mesh. These four air intakes will likely comfort the rider, especially during summer rides.
Moreover, this helmet has an extra-wide opening to allow a majority of goggles.
What’s next?
For the next few months, I’ll use the KYT Jumpshot on all my off-road rides. In our following report, I’ll talk about the overall comfort, ease of use and wear, and a few more things. And yes, the monsoon is a few months away, and that is also when the inner liners will be removed the most. So, I will be providing a comprehensive report on that aspect too.
