Introduction
The good thing about riding gears is, you can never have enough of it. This time, we have the Raida Vintago riding jacket. Yes, you read that correctly, it’s called ‘Vintago’ and not ‘vintage’, but both denote pretty much the same – old school/retro. And with the Vintago riding jacket, it seems that Raida has blended safety and protection with styling. But just how good is it? Well, that is what we will find out in the course of the next few months as I put this riding jacket to the test.
The Construction
The name gives it away quite easily. The styling and appearance of the Raida Vintago go back in time with the quilted stitching on the shoulders and the elbows. Then, there are brown and white patches running horizontally across the chest area with a leather Raida badge, which further adds to the retro vibe of this jacket.
The outer material comprises 600D PU-coated polyester fabric, while the shoulder and elbow patches are made of abrasion-resistant Cordura fabric. There is mesh at the front and rear and the inner side of the arms for ventilation.
For protection, Raida has chosen Safetech Level 2 armour for the shoulders, elbows, and back, while the chest pocket houses a Level 1 pair.
Features
Apart from the leather patch logo and the horizontal strips, the Raida Vintago also comes with reflective piping at the front and the rear. Moreover, the jacket gets a YKK zipper on the lower back area to attach the riding pants, if need be.
On the other side, there are adjustable velcro straps on the wrist, forearm, arm, and waist. These will help you tighten or loosen the fit in case you were to add or shed a few kilos. It even has pockets on the outside and inside to help you store your phone, wallet, or anything that needs to be handy.
What's Next?
The winter season is almost over here in Maharashtra and the scorching summer is about to begin, followed by monsoon. So, in the next few months, I will be wearing the Raida Vintago pretty much every day for my daily commute, shoots, and weekend jaunts outside the city and long rides, if any.
This will also include my regular maintenance which comprises a thorough wash every two weeks. So, just how practical the Raida Vintago is, we will find out as time passes by.
