First Look Review

The Vespa SXL150 is the second 150cc scooter under Vespa’s line-up after the Vespa VXL 150. This was a surprise move by the company as currently there is just one 150cc scooter sold in the Indian market.

When it comes to the overall design and styling, the SXL150 looks very similar to its 125cc sibling – the S 125. However, in order to make the SXL150 look more appealing, the Italian manufacturer has added couple of new elements. The fascia looks refreshing, thanks to the redesigned front. Just like the Vespa S, the SXL gets the same rectangular headlight cluster that gives it a sporty appearance. Complimenting this new look are the blacked-out alloy wheels which is fitted with new and broader 110/70 front tyres.

Other than these new additions, Piaggio has given the Vespa SXL150 new digital instrument cluster, which displays the trip information. The design of this instrument cluster is new and looks good, especially the curved speedometer. For a comfortable ride, the Vespa SXL150 has been equipped with new seats, which has better cushioning for longer rides. The Vespa SXL150 is available in four colours – orange, matt black, white and matt red.

The Vespa SXL150 gets its power from the 150cc 3 valve single-cylinder engine that produces 11.4bhp at 7000rpm and maximum torque of 11.5Nm at 5500rpm. The power is transferred to the rear wheels via a CVT transmission. If you are looking for a less powerful version, then there is also the SXL125. This engine churns out 10.04bhp at 7500rpm and peak torque of 10.^nm at 6000rpm. The overall dimensions are the same like the 125cc model, so is the 200mm disc brake at the front. The suspension duties are done by the aircraft-inspired single side arm front suspension with anti-dive function and a mono-shock at the rear.

With the introduction of this scooter, the Vespa SXL150 has become the second 150cc scooter to be on sale in India, after the LML Star Euro, which is sold in only few states. However, with a price tag of Rs 88,696 (ex-showroom Pune), it is certainly the most expensive scooter in India. This scooter is manufactured at Vespa’s Baramati plant in Maharashtra and the bookings and deliveries for it have already begun.
