Introduction
Approximately 11 months and 7000kms later, it’s time to bid adieu to one of the most favourite long-terms I ever had, the Yamaha FZ25. The last one year has been great fun with this quarter-litre Yamaha. We did a 3500kms long-distance ride down south, spent a full gruelling day at the track and it was also my preferred companion for every day commute.
The last three reports talked about the different aspects of the bike, be it good or bad. In this wrap up report, we bring to you the summary of our experience and answer to the ultimate question - Should you buy the Yamaha FZ25?
Positives
It’s a handsome looking bike. The design of the FZ25 caters to a wide range of buyers and that’s a great move by the company. Plus, the three chosen colours go well with the aggressive and sharp creases on the bike. To top it up, the paint finish and the overall quality aspects have been taken care of really well.
The FZ25 is supremely comfortable, especially on long hauls. The ride quality is good. The seat ergonomics is touring as well as city friendly and the seat is wide and well cushioned. Plus, the saddle bags and tank bag fit in properly. There’s even space on the handlebar to install a phone charger and phone holder.
That 250cc single-cylinder motor is a gem. Lots of torque at the low and mid-range. It’s fuel-efficient too. There are vibes, yes, but not bad enough to make it a deal breaker.
Not-so-positive
A 250cc bike with no ABS! Doesn’t feel good, right? Even a single-channel system would have done wonders. But Yamaha decided to wait till the ABS norm kicks in. The engine feels and sounds a bit harsh after spending a lot of time at higher revs. The gearshifts too, are a bit clunky.
While the LED headlamp on the FZ25 looks stunning, it doesn’t throw the required light on the road. The illumination isn’t up to the mark. The FZ25 could have done with better front brake. The current one lacks the power and bit, especially while riding fast.
To buy or not to buy
To cut things short, the FZ25 is a good all-rounder motorcycle. It offers good value, thanks to its practicality and versatility. It looks great too. As a daily companion, the FZ25 won’t disappoint you and for weekend rides, that engine has enough performance to cover miles with ease. If you buy this Yamaha, there’s no reason to own a second bike. The FZ25 will quench your thirst.
