Introduction
The incessant keyboard warriors had their guns akimbo at Yamaha after it launched the FZ-X in our country. Well, with several articles and speculations about the possible launch of the XSR155, the FZ-X seemed like a consolation prize. I’d be lying if I say I didn’t feel the same earlier.
But seemingly confident about their product, Yamaha sent us the FZ-X to use for a few months. And in this time, I am looking forward to seeing how it performs on daily commutes and tours. Also, if the Yamaha FZ-X feels like a settlement over the XSR155 that has achieved celebrity status in India- or, at least online.
Overview
However, before I get to the juicy bits, let me give you an overview of the FZ-X. So, as its name suggests, the motorcycle is based on the FZ-S Fi but with a price tag of Rs 1.16 lakh, it costs nearly Rs 12,000 more than the ‘S’. And for the extra money, you get block-pattern tyres from MRF, a comfier seat, an LED-tail lamp, a USB charging port, and an XSR-derived styling for a hint of adventure and differentiation.
If you are willing to shell out a bit more, you’d also get the FZ-X with a Bluetooth-enabled cluster. Nevertheless, underneath the bodywork, the FZ-X is powered by the same 149cc, air-cooled motor as the FZ-S that churns out 12.2bhp and 13.3Nm. It even has the same suspension and braking hardware are the FZ-S.
What’s next?
For the next report, we’ll be telling you all about its city riding behaviour, how it is to commute and use every day. Stay tuned!
