Motorcycle camping is fun and interesting – our trip with the Ducati Scrambler Icon to Bhandardara proved it beyond a doubt. It also taught us a few things, which we’ll share below. Some are necessary, some are optional, but they all will help make your experience a more enjoyable one.
1. Find the right motorcycle - Something with good ground clearance is a must. This will minimise the chances of damaging the engine or the exhaust.
2. Reach the camping spot way before sunset - This way you’ll have enough time to set up the tent, find wood for the campfire and you really don’t want to miss the sunset at the place.
3. Travel light - Carry as few things as possible. You don’t want load up the bike unnecessarily.
4. Don’t forget to carry necessary things like the tent, camp light, sleeping bag, mosquito repellent, torch, food and at least 2-3 litres of water.
5. Wear boots that cover your ankles - Thorns are a fact of camping life. Be kind to your feet and ankles.
6. Leave your track pants or shorts at home - Thorns do not always reside at ankle height. I speak from experience, remember.
7. Keep it clean - Take your waste back home in a garbage bag, or at least dispose of it in a dustbin on the way. Respect nature and it’ll respect you.
