Best Scooter Reviews of 2017 so far
Scooters are easy to ride and manoeuvre in traffic. They also offer that extra boot space to store all your market supplies and your helmet; but that is only when you have parked. Scooters come in all shapes and sizes in India. Right from the 88cc TVS Scooty Pep Plus to maxi scooters like the recently discontinued Aprilia SRV850, which could put most motorcycles to shame. Undoubtedly, the scooter segment is the fastest-growing two-wheeler segment in our country today. We tested a few of them this year, and here is the list-
Honda Cliq
The Honda Activa has been the highest-selling scooter in the Indian market for several years now. The manufacturer has now tapped into the rural markets with the Cliq. That market is mainly dominated by 100cc commuter motorcycles and this Navi-based scooter aims to change that. It uses a 109cc engine that produces 8bhp at 7,000 rpm and 8.94 NM of torque 5,500 rpm. It is also the most affordable Honda you could buy with a price tag of Rs 43,781 (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Will this scooter be the game changer it was made to be?
TVS Scooty Zest 110
The TVS Scooty Zest 110 is a trendy little scooter with a peppy engine. It uses a 109cc single cylinder engine producing 8bhp of power and 8.7Nm of torque, potent enough to zip through traffic. It is priced at Rs 48,873 (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Although does this offering from the Hosur-based manufacturer impress our expert? Find out here.
Aprilia SR150 Race
Piaggio named the SR150 Race rather appropriately, the scooter is one second faster than the standard SR150 in a 400 metre drag race. It uses revised gear ratios in the CVT transmission to make it faster than the rest. The scooter is powered by the 150cc single-cylinder motor shared by the Vespa 150cc scooters. This unit produces 10.4bhp at 7650rpm and 11.4Nm at 5000rpm. The SR150 has a stiff ride. However, the plus point of this suspension setup is the handling. The SR150 race is priced at Rs 68,463 (ex-showroom, Mumbai). How good is the racier Aprilia scooter?
