Introduction
Three months in and the Daytona AC Pro Boots have become my everyday wear. I have paired them with riding denims, textile pants, and a chino even. The latter was a one off, for a meeting. And these short boots fit right in with every pairing.
If you can’t tell already, I like them. But, not everything’s great about these Daytonas. So, here’s a quick ‘like-unlike’ list to help you make a more informed boot-buying choice.
What I’d ‘Unlike’
Laces. These are the only motorcycle boots I have used that come with laces. Not only do laces make things tedious for me – I am still not very good at tying knots – I don’t see the point of them at all. Sure, they help with a tighter fit, but the difference isn’t worth the extra effort.
Venting. Yes the AC Pro’s are perforated boots. But, the perforation is limited to the sides, which hasn’t proved to be all that good, especially while commuting. On open roads with speeds close to 100kmph, the venting is better, no doubt, but such occurrences for these boots are few and far between.
What I ‘Liked’
Looks. The Daytonas do look smart. And the laces help. Yes, I know I complained about them earlier, but these do help the boots blend in with the office types. That’s untilthey notice the titanium slider!
Quality. These are hand-made boots, and are beautifully built. Everything from the stitching, to the quality of leather, as well as the velvety touch for the soft materials, oozes opulence. I particularly like the material used for the tongue. And there’s that titanium slider of course; it’s titanium!
Comfort. One of the highlights of the AC Pro – besides that titanium slider – is the high level of comfort these boots offer. The heel is cushy, the welt is bendy and the leather around the vamp is supple, all of which helps with the walking. The inside of the boots have a soft lining, so there’s less abrasion to the feet. There’s enough space in the toe-box to wiggle your toes after a long ride (or office walk), and the boots are light enough not to leave you with aching feet.
Why would I buy one?
There are enough and more options on the market when it comes to short motorcycle boots. And, most are from reputed brands. The Daytona AC Pro, given its near Rs 20,000 price tag, as a result is a hard sell. The reason to buy it really is three fold. One, you want something that scores high on quality, safety and comfort. Two, you want something that’s not commonplace. And three, you absolutely must have everything German.
