If you ride everyday and are sensible enough to wear at least basic riding gear like a protective jacket and gloves when you do, you ought to have a mesh jacket hanging in your closet. 

Sure, leather and textile jackets work too. But, in our heat and humidity, breathability is probably as important as protection. Now, there are a number of stores in India that sell mesh jackets with good air-flow, but there’s hardly any that does the chic stuff.

Until now that is. 

Enter MotoPoto LLP. Run by Varun Aggrawal and based out of Delhi, Motopoto deals in motorcycle gear and go-faster bike parts like performance exhausts and suspension. And, under the gear vertical, it stocks brands like Daytona and Helstons; both catering to the high-end gear market.

What we have here is Helstons’ stylish and old-school mesh jacket. It’s called the Sonny and it comes in two shades – black and blue. We have the black because, well, nothing says chic like black. 

Helstons, by the way, is a French brand with a tag line – A motorcycle story. It started off making stylish and quality leather jackets, which were soon being worn my motorcyclists. Doctor House – the obnoxious television character –being one of them. And, to cater to this growing segment, Helstons went into proper, protective motorcycle wear, but without losing out on the style, quality and charisma.

The Sonny, of course, is a poly-nylon mesh jacket, and a departure from traditional Helstons leatherwear. But, it retains the maker’s product traits of style and quality. And yes, it’s high on protection; it gets SAS-TEC CE 2 soft armour for the back, shoulder and elbows as standard. It also gets a waterproof lining that doubles up as extra wind protection for colder months. And, one can order the Sonny in sizes ranging from S to 4XL.

Furthermore, to improve the fit, the jacket comes with waist and wrist adjustment. But, it uses buttons instead of Velcro. This might limit the exactness of adjustability, but it certainly makes for a more secure hold. And, a cooler look. The Sonny has three storage pockets on the outside and two on the inside.
