Helstons Wind Mesh Summer Gloves Six Month Update

Great on quality, snug in terms of fit, and good on breathability. That’s how we had described the Helstons Wind Mesh Summer gloves in our three month update report. You can read that HERE. 

Since then we have had the monsoons, and these leather gloves didn’t take kindly to the rain. We got them wet once and immediately it was difficult to get them on. And even though we dried them and then properly stored them – because these were proving to be no good in the rain – the Helstons still had a thick layer of fungus all over them when we pulled them out of the cupboard a month later. It wasn’t a pretty sight. 

The fungus though was easy to get off, at least from the leather bits. Then some spit and polish ensured those leather sections were gleaming like new. But, the mesh part proved to be a difficult customer. It was impossible to get the white residue out from the mesh in the finger areas. And even now, when the sun is shining at its brightest and hottest, we can still see some white bits under the mesh lining. 

The other thing the rain did to the Helstons was ruin their fit. These were nice and snug to begin with, but now it’s quite challenging to slip the hand inside. It’s either that, or my hands have gotten fatter. 

Anyway, as the name suggests, these are summer-only gloves, which probably make them seem even more expensive. Because, now, one would have to buy at least another pair to go with the Helstons to battle other seasons.
