Introduction
We have had the Royal Enfield Octopuss Weapon backpack for five months now and for the lack of a better phrase it’s been a mixed bag. Here’s a list of things we liked and disliked about the Weapon backpack. This may help you decide whether you want to add it to your next purchase cart or not.
Things we didn’t like
First, the things we weren’t too impressed with.
Many times when using it as a backpack, we felt the need for a bottle holder. Also, lack of compartments inside the main section of the bag meant that no matter how well we packed, it all came out as one rolled up cloth ball.
The Weapon also didn’t prove very easy to hook up as a tail bag. We did get it right eventually, but it could have been simpler at the outset. When using it as a tank bag, we didn’t find the magnets powerful enough. What’s more, the surface of the bag that sits on the tank is abrasive and ended up scratching the tank.
Also, the air exhaust valve is pointless because the air escapes via the main zipper anyways. Finally, the belly pocket is reasonably large in capacity, but its access is too small and impractical.
Good Things
Now to the things we enjoyed.
We like the fact that the Weapon is extremely easy to clean. The material for the outer cover isn’t just waterproof, it is also easy to wipe with a wet cloth for an almost brand new look.
We like the flexibility the bag offers. From being a backpack to a tank bag and a tail bag, it is versatile in that sense. Sure, it doesn’t work on all bikes, but then you only buy it if it works on the bike you have. And do remember to use a cloth between the bag and the tank.
The 22 litres is all usable and not only does it work on the bike, it also comfortably doubles up as your overnight bag with the laptop and other modern day electronic essentials thrown in. The shoulder straps (when using it as a backpack) are easy to adjust on the move and it’s almost stealth looking. Plus, we like the fact that it has a small but deep top pocket to throw in the cell phone and wallet, especially when going through airport security.
Verdict
Is the Weapon the best motorcycle backpack out there? No. Is it the most convenient when it comes to packing? No. But, it is versatile. We have used it as a back and tail bag on an Impulse and a 390 Duke, and it worked fine. Then we used it as a back, tail and a tank bag on a Bullet 500 and the Weapon worked well there too. The only thing that really holds it back is its relatively high pricing compared to the competition.

Positives: A water proof, versatile bag that’s easy to clean and can hold a lot of stuff
