Royal Enfield Spiti riding gloves
Race gloves can get very uncomfortable on a commute in summer, so gloves with short gauntlets and more breathable material become the glove of choice for riding to work every day. Royal Enfield has now moved into the space of riding gear and lifestyle apparel, and the Spiti short touring glove, as they call it, are the first pair of gloves we’ll be testing from the brand.
The specs, first: the outer shell is made out of high-grade leather and ‘polyester air stretch mesh’ according to the website. The lining is 100 per cent polyester tricot lining. The knuckle protector is a thermoformed one and the palm slider grip is a reinforced one for abrasion resistance. There is also PU coated leather on the palm for better grip.
The Spiti gloves look good for their price, and comfort is great. There are some thoughtful touches like the tips of the thumb and index finger, which are made of a different material to allow you to use your phone without removing the gloves. The short cuffs make them easy to put on and take off at the office security checkpoint. The tradeoff of the comfort is that the material seems a little too flimsy for enthusiastic riding, but we’ll make a decision as the days go by.
I use XXL size gloves, and that’s the largest size you can have them in. S is the smallest size. The Spiti retails for Rs 3200 a pair, and compete with the likes of the Ixon RS Flip HP, AGV Sport Twist, Alpinestars Fighter Air, and DSG Revive gloves.
