Top 5 most affordable motorcycles
All the normal junta looks for while buying a basic commuter motorcycle is a hassle-free and low maintenance motorcycle which will take care of their commute, and comfortably ferry them through the potholed roads and smooth tarmac. For a highly price-conscious market like India, the asking amount probably is second biggest factor affecting any motorcycle’s success, after its fuel efficiency. Affordability is the key here, and Indian manufacturers have become quite adept at playing the numbers game. Here are the five most affordable motorcycles that you can buy in India -
1. Bajaj CT 100B – Rs 30,990 (ex-showroom, Delhi)
With the Bajaj CT 100 striking a chord with the Indian customers, Bajaj decided to launch a cut-price version of their cheapest motorcycle. The result was the Bajaj CT 100B. A barebones motorcycle stripped of every unnecessary component, the CBT 100B is the perfect embodiment of the term ‘minimalistic’. Emphasis has been put on making the motorcycle comfortable in rural conditions, and keeping it as low maintenance as possible. The formula seems to have worked as the CT 100B and CT 100 cumulatively rake in the highest volumes for the Pune-based manufacturer. Also worth noting is that the CT 100B is the second most economical motorcycle in the country, with a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 99.1kmpl.
2. TVS Sport – Rs 36,880 (ex-showroom, Delhi)
The TVS Sport is a basic 99cc commuter motorcycle, though unlike the Bajaj CT 100B, it does come with a bit more kit than just a frame, engine, and two wheels. With the urban crowd also being a part of the target audience, the TVS Sport gets a racy front cowl and decals in a bid to up the sportiness factor. It also comes with optional alloys wheels and electric starter. Powering the TVS Sport is a DuraLife single-cylinder engine, with a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 95kmpl.
3. Hero HF Dawn – 39,470 Rs (ex-showroom, Delhi)
The Hero HF Dawn is Hero MotoCorp’s equivalent of the Bajaj CT 100B. This rudimentary motorcycle is targeted at consumers looking for a hassle-free means of transport. There is not much on offer apart from the tried and tested 97cc single-cylinder engine and Hero MotoCorp’s unique 5 years/70,000kms warranty for peace of mind. Equipment list consists of an analogue console with just a speedometer and odometer, spoke wheels and drum brakes.
4. Hero HF Deluxe – Rs 42,400 (ex-showroom, Delhi)
With monthly sales of over 1 lakh units, the HF Deluxe is the highest selling motorcycle in this list. Though it doesn’t have a lot to brag about in terms of creature comforts, the HF Deluxe does get upmarket styling to improve its aesthetic appeal. Propelling the HF Deluxe is the 97cc single-cylinder engine, delivering 7.7bhp and 8Nm of torque. It comes with a trapezoidal headlamp, five-spoke alloy wheels and a two-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorber at the rear. Electric start is offered as an optional extra.
5. Mahindra Centuro Rockstar – Rs 43,250 (ex-showroom, Delhi)
The Mahindra Centuro turned quite a few heads when it was launched, thanks to its refreshing styling and the lengthy feature list. However, post the initial frenzy, the disappointing sales numbers indicated that customers weren’t exactly impressed by all this technology. And that is how the Centuro Rockstar came into picture. While it does get fancier graphics, the Centuro Rockstar misses out on the digital display in the instrument cluster, remote key fob and the anti-theft alarm. Nevertheless, it does retain the LED pilot lamps, LED tail lamps, alloy wheels and the stylish flip key, five-step adjustable rear shocks. Easily one of the best looking, yet underrated motorcycles in its price range.
