The Fatboy Special is one of the big cruiser motorcycles from Harley-Davidson, and features old-school styling of the 60s and 70s. The Fatboy Special is derived from the Fatboy and is one of the three Softtail cruisers offered by Harley in India. The difference between the standard model and the Special is not much, except that the Special sits low, gets narrower handlebars and a dark paint scheme. It is also one of the Harley motorcycles that are assembled in India.
The Fatboy Special gets a V-Twin 1,690cc 4 valve engine producing around 65bhp and 132Nm of torque. It is belt driven and gets a six-speed gearbox that transmits the power to the rear wheel.
The motorcycle is built on mild steel, rectangular section tubular frame and gets 41.33mm telescopic “Beer Can” covers at the front and hidden horizontal mounted coil-over suspension at the rear, it being a Softtail. Stopping power comes from a four-piston caliper biting into a single 292mm disc at the front and rear. It gets a 140/75 R17 tyre at the front and a 200/55 R17 tyre at the rear. It is 2390mm long, 905mm wide, 1075mm tall and has a wheel base of 1630mm. The motorcycle tips the scales at a portly 330kg.
The Fatboy also gets an optional factory-installed security system and features a handsfree fob that automatically arms and disarms the motorcycle’s electronic security functions. It is available in two colours, black denim and vivid black.
The Fatboy Special competes with the Suzuki M1800R Intruder and the Triumph Thunderbird Storm.
The ARAI mileage of Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Special [2017-2018] is 18 kmpl.
