  • Review on my one week old honda dream neo

    Bhaskar

    Style

classic style with modern apperance, almost derived from old hero honda splendor product line. Best choice for those who are not looking for modern sports bike like apperance, and for those who don't want to spend extra money just for style.

Engine performance, fuel economy and gearbox

very good pickup in below 110cc segment, pulling power is smoothly distributed over four gear range so less gear shits are required in city traffic. Gear shifting is smooth and easy without any unwanted noises or slippings. I've done total 170km, mostly in highways within 40km-50km speed range, which gives me 71km/ltr mileage.

    Ride quality & handling

good seating position, stability, easy handling and control.

    Final words

my review/comparison is strictly limited to below 110cc bikes because this one is 109cc.

I've been using hero honda splendor since 1995 without any serious issues till date.

When i decided to buy a new bike, the first thing i did was visit the showrooms most popular brands like honda, hero, bajaj, yamaha, suzuki and mahendra in my area and ask for a test ride. Then collected the feedback of my friends who are using those makes and models. After going through friends feedback and my test drive experience, i zeroed in on honda dream neo because of the following reasons.

    1) Honda engines are well known for its quality, durability and fuel efficiency.

    2) Many of my friends use honda bikes and none of them advised me against going for honda make.

    3) I was looking for a balance between power, mileage, style, comfort and price.

    4) I couldn't find a bike with same features for almost same price. (Self start, alloy wheels, tubeless tyres)

    5) even the honda dream yuga is priced a few thousands above neo. But both comes with same engine, gear box etc. Only the style and wheel base is different. So didn't find any serious benefit in going for yuga.

I avoided the other makes because of the given below reasons.

Hero - it was my second choice because of almost equally comparable to honda in engine, build quality and service availability. But the price is high for the same feature set compared to honda.

Bajaj - friends using bajaj model didn't recommend it because it gives them continuous troubles even under warranty period.

Yamaha - engine and build quality is almost equal to honda. But price is high for the same feature set compared to honda, and low mileage. Service centres are also less in numbers.

Suzuki - difficult to get service and spare parts especially in long run. Low milegage and price is high for the same feature set compared to honda.

Mahindra - vibrations, more gear shifts are needed in city traffic, low pickup, durability & quality of engine are not known, and service support is not good at least this point of time. Electronic security system is the main attraction. But the security systems with almost the same features are availbale for any bikes in after market for around rs 1500/- from companies like xenos, minda etc.

In my opinion, its the bike for you if you are looking for a commuter bike with good power, mileage, style, comfort and all those within reasonable price.

    Areas of improvement

it would be better if neo comes with disk brake option, with side cover key locks instead of screws.

    Pros

    mileage, comfort, pickup and style

    cons

no side cover lock, no disk brake

  • Current update - i ll update again bike status

    Ashis

My current mileage is 70km in normal road(2000km already drove). Driving comfort, stability on road and engine sound too good. 3.Bike servicing at honda showroom too bad, m facing ddakk sound from front shocker / handle and gear shifting problem(often gear doesn't shift during drive). Honda service team always avoid to solve problem and they are telling "yeh aisa hi hai"i often heard from honda neo rider, for first 5, 000km-10, 000km it gives good mileage later it decreases sequentially. Though i have already drove 2000km. I ll update again my bike status after 10000-15, 000km.

Engine vibrates after 60km/hr speed n sounds more. Though very rare i race above 50km/hr.

This is meant for the self + alloy version and i have done around 20,000 kms in 2 years on it.

Style not very stylish overall, colour / graphics are done using stickers/decals with decent looks. All black alloy wheels and engine improve the looks. Front seems too light weight and thin, while profile and back view is decent. A clean and shiny bike attracts a few head-turns on the road. 🙂

Engine performance, fuel economy and gearbox engine performance, smoothness and refinement are top notch. Not faced any issues till date. Regarding fuel economy, never gone below 70 kmpl although i am not a very agressive rider.

Gearbox - smooth function without any issues, although sometimes feel a 5th gear would have made me like it even more.

    Ride quality &
    handling
being a light weight bike, maneuverability is easy and ride quality is the usp of this product. Please bear in mind that my views are restricted to commuting within city and not for long highway rides.

Riding position is good and have not had any back pain issues despite a 50 km commute everyday. Low end torque isn't segment defying, so pick-up is mild. Once in 3rd and then in 4th gear, acceleration is good and smooth. Can easily reach 70 beyond which vibrations / engine noise start kicking in.

Braking is decent, with drums at front and rear.

Final words this bike competes with the splendour, discover 100, start city+ / victor (major competitors).

    In comparison with these, the honda refinement, economy, ride quality and features like tubeless types (mrf zapper) and high ground clearance make it a compelling buy. Negatives like bland styling, thin tyres, analog dashboard need to be looked at;
the infamous honda service is a definate turn-off, but you can go for servicing at local shops / centers (as i have).

Areas of improvement digital meters, options for disc brakes and fatter tyres will make this a better buy.

This is honda's most affordable bike in India and the build quality is slightly better than those of its competitors. This is good and low maintenance bike. Mileage is good, fit 4 daily use. But this seat should be more comfortable .. Engine is too much refined and smooth. Nice pickup but the worst part is its rear suspension which is too hard. *no vibrations*. Go for it. It is better than hero splendor. Tyre's are of tvs which is ok. Bike sounds good. They have given analogue meter instead of digital or semi-digital.

Buying experience was good. Riding comfort is less. (its a entry level bike). Still used for daily commute and occasional long rides. For daily commute, its good. And about looks, its a entry level good looking bike. Honda service is good. Used for 5 years. Still good condition, no complaints yet. I need to upgrade my bike to 150 cc for long rides. Looking for bikes from honda. Pros: Mileage, looks, service, maintenance, gear shift smooth. Cons: Poor pick up.

Dream neo is not more costly. And it's easily available at all cities.

When i ride on dream neo has amazing pick up as compare to other bikes on same price. It's look like a fly when ride.

Bike doesn't have any fault in 3 year uses and still. Tyre maintenance of bike isn't necessary because tubeless tyre run more than 2.5 or 3 year and still running. A head light of bike is so bright it will very useful in night travelling. Headlight is run on accelerator and passing light is on battery so it will help when necessary of more light the both of light can be use when other bike has only one light can be use at once. So it's more benefits to dream neo users.

A service staff of honda service centre is good. They will give you good service in small time. So it's also one the positive point for honda users.

I had bought this bike in august 2016. The buying experience was good. This bike has 5 step adjustable rear shocks so riding comfort is good. It looks awesome in geny grey colour, performance of the bike is best,no vibrations and it gives me genuine 62 kmpl. Servicing costs are minimal. No cons at all.

    In comparison with these, the honda refinement, economy, ride quality and features like tubeless types (mrf zapper) and high ground clearance make it a compelling buy. Negatives like bland styling, thin tyres, analog dashboard need to be looked at;
the infamous honda service is a definate turn-off, but you can go for servicing at local shops / centers (as i have).

And about looks, its a entry level good looking bike. Honda service is good. Used for 5 years. Still good condition, no complaints yet. I need to upgrade my bike to 150 cc for long rides.

Bike is good.

    Tips for other riders

Change oil after every 2500 kms. Keep optimistic tyre pressure. Frequent gearshifts should be avoided.
