Hyosung GT650R Summary

Korean motorcycle brand Hyosung first launched the GT 650R in India in 2012. Introduced as a middle weight performance motorcycle, the GT 650R continues to remain one of Hyosung’s most popular offering worldwide.

The GT 650R went through a major cosmetic upgrade in 2013. The front-end was completely restyled and now features a stylish new design which also aids the overall aerodynamics. Behind the new face sits a fairly big fuel tank which can hold up to 17 litres of fuel.

The GT 650R is powered by a 647cc, V-twin engine which produces an impressive 72bhp of maximum power at 9,000rpm and 61Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. The liquid cooled, four-stroke engine is known for its punchy low and mid-range power delivery. The bike comes with a 6-speed gearbox shifting in 1-down, 5-up pattern.

The Hyosung GT 650R is quite aggressively priced and competes with Kawasaki’s acclaimed Ninja 650R.

Hyosung GT650R Review

  • Good Things

    • Offers a big bike feel
    • Has sporty riding position
    • V-Twin engine has good grunt
  • Could be Better

    • Service reach is limited
    • Brakes could be better
    • Is difficult to ride in the city

BikeWale's Take

The GT650R promises to give the rider the feel of a big bike with its sporty riding position and grunty V-twin motor. Although the GT650R falls short because of limited service reach and lack of good braking hardware.

BIKE IS being tuned to it's Potential

      Salvier Dmello

The underappreciated and formidable underdog champion that can directly compete with the Ninja 650 and even the Z900. When modified, it becomes the most formidable in its class. However, there are two notable drawbacks: the absence of ABS and restricted parts availability.
In my opinion, the bike's appearance is quite appealing because it resembles a muscular and authentic Super Sports bike. It can be referred to as a Hyper Sports bike. The sound is also bass-oriented. Mine is equipped with a Two Brothers Exhaust, and it sounds just like a Ducati V-twin.
For me, a V-twin like this bike sounds better than a Harley. There is a difference between 45° and 90° V-twins. People frequently misunderstand the engine type when they hear about V-Twins.

      Tips for other riders

In order to achieve optimal performance, I suggest using 95+ octane fuel. Additionally, the use of fully synthetic 10w40 oil can noticeably enhance the smoothness of the engine. However, I would advise against any attempts at tuning the engine, as the ECM can be quite sensitive to modifications and may cause issues. Furthermore, I have encountered challenges with the Rr unit, specifically instances of short-circuiting and fuse burnout upon insertion.

      1) As the vehicle is discontinued, only old bikes is available for purchase.
      2) The riding experience is much better than any other bike in this sitting posture,
      3) look is unbeatable, everyone will look at you and only you compared to any other sports bike near it , performance wise bike is too quick and has excellent pickup.
      4) servicing cost may vary as per your way of driving overall it is ok.
      5) pros - power, look is awesome
Cons- less milage so not fuel efficient, sitting posture gives u hard back pain and hand pain
      , irregular parts availability.

      Better then ninja650
Looks & performance both are unbeatable
      Fantastic beast
The only thing where it lacks is sound
The sound is good but doesn't sound superbike.
In comparison to Benelli 600i which has much more louder sound than gt650r & cbr650 also. But it's the best in this price range. Keep it maintained.
Suzuki's parts are compatible with this bike.

Change engine oil on time & don't go too harsh & fast If you're going for a long trip then firstly go 50-60 km/l for a trial purpose. Sometimes it heats up & takes time to start.

      Suraj

The bike is good from looks perspective, but when it comes to riding experience, the bike gets heated up quite immediately, handling at turning is not good. The price is very high for a 250 cc bike . Go for the bike only if you are behind looks else look for other options like ktm, honda, kawasaki, tvs etc
