Duke 250 in 2019 review pros and cons .My experience
5 years ago
George
1.Buying experience: Ktm service it's one of the best customer service i have seen. It's better than other honda and yamaha... . They are friendly and they provided everything we need. I loved the bike more than the duke 390, it's like overkill for me. So the buying experience is good it's 100%.2. Riding experience. Coming to the riding experience it's better than duke 200. I want to take the rc 200 but it's not suitable for a daily commute or any family purpose. So i went for the duke 250, as well the pillion comfort is better . My wife like to ride bikes, she loved it its way better than duke 200. Overall suspension is on the stiffer side so less comfort.3. Details and performance. I heard most of the dukes have the front suspension oil leak but luckily i haven't faced that problem yet.Styling in this bike is great i took the black and white model. It's bold and simple, good for riders like simple rides more than funky colours. Performance is great the engine is 80% smoother than duke 200 or rc 200. It's way better in performance ( hot knife through butter ) i loved it. If you are planning on duke go for it. (details 90% / performance 80%).4. Servicing and maintenance. Servicing it's great like i told better than any other companies. Because there are less bikes in ktm not like the other companies. Young professionals are handling the service so it's great.Coming to the maintenance it's fair but not overpriced. If you anything broke then its gonna be like hell. I changed the the tires for the grip ktm provides mrf but go for the michilline.(service 90% /maintenance 65%).5.Pros and cons Pros# great performance than the duke 200. Engine is smooth.# mileage good for a 250 cc bike. I usually ride it in 60-70 kmph i got 32-35 good.# good handling best in 250cc categorie bikes.# pillion comfort is good and the seats are bigger than duke 200. But still hard seats.# does great in off-roading. But keep an eye on front suspension.Cons# braking it's tough the rear wheel locks at sudden situations.# heating is a major in traffic for half an hour your legs will be grilled. Radiator fan starts roaring.# tire grip cost some money.# the petrol tank gets scratched often .That's it friends thanks !!

Braking is very good.Don't feel any vibration on high speed.Average is good 35kmpl. Exhaust sound is also normal. Its has aggressive looks like super duke. But duke 250 should have abs because 30bhp is not less. When the bike is new don't cross 5000 rpm till 1 month or 2 servicing for better average eye stunner.

KTM duke should come in shorter seat height

KTM Duke should come in shorter seat height also. Because short height rider faced problem in city traffic. I am also interested to buy KTM Duke 250 . But due to my height I have to change my decision. My height is 5 feet 4 inch. So looking towards the Short height rider KTM can launch bike in short seat height also.

Pros of this bike

First of all this bike is awesome if your age is 18 to 28. Secondly the pickup of this bike is just awesome like it gets 0-100 in 7secs and that's pretty cool. And the bs6 is pretty good from bs4 where you get dual abs and a new super moto mode where you can make the abs of back wheel off. At last I will say this bike is awesome.

I bought my bike on the 1st of june 2019, we had placed an order 3 days prior and paid the full amount one day before the delivery. Its been over an year as of now and i would be lying if i said my experience at 13,000 odd kms have all been sunshine and rainbows, its been all that but with its own unique set of challenges i explored with my bike. Read on as i attempt to do justice to the questions commonly asked with regards to my first bike, ktm duke 250 (abs).Competition faced by duke 250At the time of researching bikes that i felt were right for me, i had a few factors in my mind. They are as follows:-1) price The budget i had at my disposal was around 2 lakhs to 2.5 lakhs. At that tag, dominar 400, himalayan, fz 250, apache 200, pulsar ns and rs and of-course the infamous duke 200 and rc 200. At present date there are many other entries into the market worthy of your consideration. Namely the husqvarna series that borrows the engine and several components from the duke 250.Duke 250 made the cut indefinitely for me as i felt it was right in my budget, looked killer, had an dual channel abs feature, never compromised in performance and promised a decent mileage for all it offered. But, was i happy with the mileage figures once i had the bike ? that's a matter for later.2) naked or sports bike ?This is something i feel every prospective bike buyer should give plenty of thought over. As you might have gathered by now, i went for a naked bike. Although a sports bike offers a plethora of advantages in certain areas of riding, the dedicated posture which requires you to bend a lot, chances of the side faring being damaged heavily, lack of off-road ability, lack of pillion comfort and the traffic of bangalore were some of the reasons i went for a naked bike. My duke allows me to test it all terrains, keeps me free of body aches due to the excellent seating posture and gives me immense confidence and control. 3) mileage An extremely important factor in choosing a bike, my initial interest was towards the duke 390. But the online quotes on the commendable mileage of the duke 250 grabbed my attention, they claimed 30 in the city and 35 on the highways, naturally i was very impressed as the duke 250 had the same body and a similar performance feel as the duke 390. But, sadly i can tell you right now this is not true, i am saying this after over an year of use and keeping track of every time i fill up.The bike, if ridden in higher gears and lower rpm up until 6000 to 7000 rpm will give you about 25 to 27 kmpl in the city and 29 to 31 kmpl on a highway ride. I have tested the mileage thoroughly in different riding conditions, terrain, and types of trips from places with curvy roads to straight highways for 100s of km. This is what you get. Period.Keep in mind, these results were obtained under the riding conditions i mentioned, you can expect drastically lesser mileage if you are riding in 9k to 11k rpms and raising the rpm in lower gears, you can expect 22 to 24 kmpl in the city and highways if you keep that up for the whole duration of the ride.My tip is to be as higher up in the gear as the vehicle permits under the circumstances, the bike will still have an amazing pull which will ensure you much ahead of anyone in the road. 4k rpm to 7k is the sweet spot, in any gear.4) looks and comfort.I feel the bike speaks for itself in this segment, its the best looking bike in the market after the duke 390 according to me. I was carried away by the futuristic, sharp and alien like design borrowed from the superduke since the day i first laid eyes on the bike.Comfort, to be honest, the seat is on the harder side and i have felt discomfort on long rides for sure. I feel this issue can be easily dressed but there are no updates as of yet. Seat could be much softer.Seat height, another vital factor to be considered, this is something that is dreaded by most of us. The seat is definitely high at 835 mm, it would not be the easiest for shorter riders to handle in traffic and off-road situations. I am 5'9 and i find difficulty in navigating the bike in parking spaces and off-road trials due to the heavy weight and how its distributed. However, you will not face any difficulty once you are on the road and in better conditions.5) technology and riding ergonomics The duke 250 comes with a highly informative console which has all the information you may need regarding your bike. You can set trips, see the average mileage and speed of each trip(the mileage always seems to be wrong in mine), heat meter, petrol meter, rpm meter, next service due and km range and much more. It also comes with dual channel abs which is highly helpful.Riding ergonomics, out of around 20 to 30 bikes that i have ridden, i have never felt such a confidence inspiring machine next to this. This bike makes you feel you are one with the bike and the bike is an extension of your body. This has been done by the truly creative seating posture with your knees high-up and close to the body and the wide handle bars. The best in ride quality. The brakes are very spongy and offer very less bite, ktm has addressed this with the bs6 compliant which comes with a bigger 320 mm disk as compared to 300 mm that i have. The back brakes don't really contribute anything at all to your braking and that is common in all bikes as far as i know.5)maintenance cost. Ktm offers 3 free services, labor is not charged for the work done in these 3 services.1st service is right after 1000 km. It cost me 1800 rupees. Main things done are engine oil change, air filter change, oil filter change and chain lube.2nd service was given at 5000 km. It cost me 1750 rupees, same routine was followed.3rd service was given at 9500 km. It cost me 2400 rupees, same routine was followed. In addition to this, chain lube has to be done every 500 km to ensure smooth gear shifts and reduce vibrations. Ktm does a fairly good job with the service and i have not had any issues so far.Chain sprockets and chain replacement had to be done at 10,000 km as the chain kept going out of tension and getting loose, it cost me 3700 including labor.I recommend service and oil change every 4000 to 5000 kms. As i have used all my free services, the next one will cost me 3500 to 4000 rupees.Well, you have made it to the end of my review and i hope i have painted a fair picture about what you will be getting into on buying this beautiful machine and what you can expect from it. Thank you for reading and ride safe.Cheers.

The Everyday KTM

Buying my first KTM was satisfactory. Duke 250 is a different genre of ktm available in India. Riding experience thorough city/state or highways is a bliss. The performance of the engine is amazingly smooth and that's what differentiates it from other Ktm motorcycles. The hardware tops the list amongst competitors with WP USD suspension, slipper clutch, dual channel abs with super moto mode which happens to be only in the segment, powerful led headlights which really works in the real life, time tested 250cc DOHC engine on the trellis flame is definitely a worth package . Seating comfort is good for the rider but not as good for the pillion. Electronics on this machine works fine most of the time and promises a longer run. This is one such motorcycle which will grab all the attention on the road in almost every angle who so ever looks at it. All good so far but once you start riding and your locality has more speed bumpers than road oh then you've just ended the pros list. Welcome to the biggest bummer "GROUND CLEARANCE" single riding or with a pillion your bike will definitely scrap the belly and that will obviously hurt your heart, secondly the sprocket and chain on this motorcycle is a mess. I'm sure that anyone buying this motorcycle will hate these 2 very obvious cons, other things are fine but these problems can't be ignored. Service and maintenance will not make a hole in your pocket if you ride sensibly. Overall a very good motorcycle for someone who wants a KTM but doesn't want to scare himself or the pillion thus this everyday KTM is lovely motorcycle.
