KTM 250 Duke received its biggest ever upgrade in 2024. This streetfighter received a lot of changes - aesthetically as well as in the performance aspects.
KTM also completely redesigned the engine of the 250 Duke. With a newly optimised cylinder head and gearbox and a larger airbox, the 250 Duke is claimed to be more potent than before. As a result, the power and torque output numbers have also witnessed a marginal hike. Now, the 248.7cc, liquid-cooled engine of the bike produces 30.57bhp and 25Nm and continues to be mated to a six-speed gearbox. As a result of a bigger airbox, the KTM Duke 250 top speed has also gone up and can now easily do over 140kmph.
Furthermore, the cycle parts of the bike have also been altered. It is underpinned by an all-new steel trellis frame that joins an off-set mono-shock, a curved swingarm, new 17-inch alloys, and new brakes all of which are lighter to facilitate the bike with a better power-to-weight ratio.
The feature list of the 250 Duke has got quite longer with the inclusion of a ride-by-wire throttle system, a slipper clutch, and a quick shifter. The instrument cluster is a five-inch LCD unit which is Bluetooth-enabled and offers turn-by-turn navigation. Accompanying these goodies is a new bodywork which is more similar to the flagship 1290 Super Duke than the previous model. The front fascia looks more sinister and radical, the fuel tank section is muscular with sharper extensions, and the new die-cast aluminium sub-frame makes for the tail section.
The 2024 KTM 250 Duke is available in three colours – Electronic Orange, Atlantic Blue Ceramic White.

I bought 250 Gen 3 and it's been a month. Other choices are cb300r and speed 400. I experienced heat sooner in Speed 400 than in Duke 250 still the heat in most of the bikes is manageable. To me, Suspension is better in Duke compared to speed 400. Do note I see little vibration in the handlebar and footpeg during low revs, hoping it will be resolved after 1st service. Test ride and decide.

How KTM betrayed both the middle child duke and its customers
2 weeks ago

Imagine buying the exact bike you wanted and buying it. That was the RC 390 for me when my parents gifted it to me in college. I loved that bike and i never rode it below 7k rpm and not once was there even a hickup. Reputation for a ktm in my mind could be summarized as 'weird looking fast bikes with exceptional handling and bulletproof reliability'. I sold it after riding it for about 20k kilometers. Then came the time to buy a bike for my newbie rider girlfriend and she loved the duke 390. I thought that the 390 is too much of a bike for a newbie so we settled on the duke 250. We took the delivery of the bike just months after its launch and once again the chassis, suspension, handling was all great. The braking performance is good but only with high spec brakepads thats costs a fortune otherwise the abs is just too intrusive, a fair bit more than even my gt650. The engine was not at all punchy down low but thats to be expected with a small 250 single. As you climb the revs the sweet spot is between 6 to 8k rpm. Beyond that it just struggles to push but that is because ktm bikes are tunes very lean due to emission norms. But thankfully the powerband was leaner compared to my rc390 whose powerband was the only reason i got rid of it. Just yuk. A few weeks into ownership the bike started to show its colour or rather the lack of them as the display would suddenly turn all white it would take a reboot to fix that. Soon the display started loosing its pixels faster than a 70 year old with cataract. Then the bike would start to idle at 4k rpm. We took it to the ktm dealship and the only thing they did was an ecu flash for the high idle. The display was never changed under warranty which btw is of 5 years and 75000 kms but what good is it if they wont apply it properly. To this day its takes a microscope with ai to read the engine temperature. Its more or less a ritual for the bike to turn off atleast 2 times by itself upon cold start and then it would keep idling. The hazard lights have a mood and your wish to use them comes more as a suggestion. All in all the bike is great to ride. The mechanical stuff is amazing. The fit and finish, the build quality, even the basic reliability is on point but the small niggles are the ones which kind of spoils the user experience to the point where you wouldn't wanna keep it forever even as a souvenir if it's your 1st bike. And the final nail in the coffin came an year later when ktm gave a 20k discount on it while giving it 390's drls and display. Now its just a place holder till i sell it and get a proper bike. My suggestion is that if you are a beginner rider who would like to experience the best of handling in small bikes go get a used one as you will easily be able to find it at a very reasonable price. Ride it for a while and if you can live with the small niggles it has keep it for about 2 years otherwise you will anyway end up selling it in 1 year as the engine in that competent chassis feels like a 16 year old in a team with professional players. It will do bt it'll just do.

making it ideal for city commuting and spirited rides on winding roads, though its stiff suspension might not suit everyone seeking long-distance comfort; it offers a great balance of performance, style, and affordability, with a modern design that turns heads on the road while maintaining a manageable power delivery for both new and experienced riders.
