  • Just personal experience not any paid review

    Indranil Das

    Hello reader
if you're planning to buy KTM Duke 390 please consider reading this. I'm owning this bike for about 2 years now.
This is not any paid review, whatever am writing is just personal experience.
Firstly, buying is very much hassle-free if you're going for a cash purchase. Just remember to bargain. There is always room for price negotiation.
If you're going for EMI please check with multi banks for offers and interest percentage. And always go for a fixed rate of interest not floating. That can save you few thousand.
The second most important part is maintaining the bike.
Always try to do the servicing from an authorized service center. Not only it will extend the life of your bike, but at the same time it will be very helpful in times of any sort of emergency situation.
Don't have the miss conception that it's bajaj so the service cost will be less. Be ready to pay around 3k - 4k every time the bike goes for service. In every 10k - 12k km chain sprocket and clutch plate assembly need to be changed which roughly costs something around 9k. Do change the tires between 20k to 23k km. Mrf tyres don't last more than that.
What KTM is known for, Duke 390 absolutely stands strong over there. Fully loaded with power ' n ' specs, pick up is absolutely top-notch, till now I have managed to touch 168 km/l top end without any performance upgrade, with all stock parts. What we all want to know after buying a bike is what's the mileage of the bike. So far my bike delivers 330 kms of mileage in a full tank. But mostly, my bike is used on highways.
Try using Michelin road 5 tyres for better performance. Am using liquid moly street race mobil. Indeed it's better than Motul 7100 10w 50.
For chain clean and lube am using 66bhp products.
    Pros and cons :-
    Pros
1 > greats look and light weight.
2 > fully loaded with specs in this price category.
    great value for money bike.
3 > easy availability to spare parts and wide range of
    service centers.
4 > can be used for all purposes. Whether it's city
    ride, off roading or touring.
5 > breaking is too good compared to re 350, BMW
    310 r and Apache 310 r.
    Cons
    1 > have vibration issues.
2 > stalling of the bike going to be a permanent
    issue.
3 > built quality is not that great.
4 > stock lights are horrible.

    Buying experience:
The buying experience of the ktm 390 duke was overall satisfactory. Ktm dealerships are known for their professionalism and customer service, and my experience was no different. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful in guiding me through the different variants and features of the bike. The booking and delivery process was smooth and efficient.
    Riding experience:
The riding experience on the ktm 390 duke is nothing short of exhilarating. This motorcycle is built for thrill-seekers and offers a dynamic and sporty ride. The 390cc engine delivers ample power and torque, providing quick acceleration and impressive top speed. The lightweight chassis and responsive handling make it a joy to maneuver through both city traffic and twisty roads. The upright riding position and comfortable seat allow for long rides without much fatigue. The bike also comes equipped with advanced features like ride-by-wire throttle, slipper clutch, and multiple riding modes, adding to the overall riding experience.
    Looks and performance:
In terms of looks, the ktm 390 duke stands out with its aggressive and sharp design. The edgy bodywork, exposed trellis frame, and distinctive orange color scheme give it a bold and distinctive appearance. The bike has a muscular stance and a compact size, making it visually appealing. As for performance, the 390 duke delivers outstanding performance in its segment. The liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine produces impressive power and torque, ensuring quick acceleration and thrilling rides. The bike also features top-notch components like high-quality brakes, suspension, and tires, contributing to its excellent performance on both urban roads and highways.
    Servicing and maintenance:
Ktm has a widespread network of service centers, making it convenient to get the bike serviced or repaired when needed. The servicing and maintenance costs are generally reasonable, considering the performance-oriented nature of the motorcycle. However, it's worth noting that certain components, such as tires and premium parts, might require slightly higher maintenance costs.
    Pros:
    Powerful and responsive engine
    Excellent handling and maneuverability
    The striking and aggressive design
Advanced features like ride-by-wire throttle and multiple riding modes
The comfortable riding position for long rides
    Cons:
A firm suspension setup might feel slightly harsh on rough roads
Limited pillion comfort due to the sporty seating position
    Vibrations at higher speeds
Overall, the ktm 390 duke is a fantastic motorcycle for those seeking an exciting and dynamic riding experience. Its combination of power, agility, and striking looks make it a compelling choice in the middleweight segment. However, potential buyers should consider their preferences for comfort and intended usage, as the bike's sporty nature might not suit everyone's needs.

The buying experience of the KTM Duke 390 was incomparable to anything. I bought my motorcycle in the month of May 2017 out of the very first lot. I took delivery after all the paperwork was done. My first ride experience was amazing as I twisted the throttle the motorcycle instantly pulled a wheelie outside the KTM showroom and the people who went through watched me like I was a crazy fool. Riding experience is the best. I was a person who considered motorcycles as mere machines who could take me from point A to B. Boy was I wrong. This motorcycle changed the way I look at motorcycles and I was taking it all in. I went on to join online forums, and biker groups inside the city, and went for breakfast rides to nearby cities like Pondicherry, Bangalore, Telangana, etc. Talking about looks and performance this motorcycle boasts looks that cannot be compared to any motorcycle. of course, the Dominar was sharing its engine and internal organs but it was a SOHC, and Duke 390 was a DOHC which made a whole lot of difference. A feature-packed motorcycle that came out of the factory with Ride by wire, slipper clutch, ABS with supermoto mode, TFT display, USD forks, and Metzeler tyres which just hugged the road when I was cornering. If you need your Duke 390 to perform you have to give proper care to it. I went to changing different engine oils from Motul, Castrol, Shell, and Pertonas to perform like anything, and of course, there is a heat management which is not that good. But you have to use Engine Ice Coolant to sort out that issue. Finally, if you are someone who wants to learn what motorcycle riding is all about you have to try riding a KTM Duke 390 at least 100 kms. I am sure you will fall for it. Ride safe.

Dont indulge in road rage with anyone. Only you know the value of your motorcycle and dont need to prove to any random strangers on the road about your motorcycle's performance.

The 390 Duke though, that's for the nutters. It's not the most comfortable and demands a lot from you but if brute performance in a light-weight package is what you're looking for, it doesn't get any better than this in the sub-400cc streetfighter segment.
Is Duke 390 good for daily use?
Yes, it can be the only problem you might face is the heating. Yes, but gives too much acceleration in traffic. Yeah but in traffic your thighs will get burned. Yes, it can be used for daily use with no problem but there is a heating issue in the summer.

    Nilesh

It is a good-looking performance bike from my side I would be giving 100/100 as it has a mileage of 25 to 30.
I would suggest, buying this bike if you prefer a 400cc bike it’s stylish looking and road attraction is too much good. Its maintenance cost is about only 4000 to 5000 it’s drl lights are too cool.

For a 390 cc bike, the buying price is too high
Riding this bike is too good and the looks of the bike are too sexy and the graphics of this bike are amazing and the performance is also good for this segment.
Service and maintenance of this bike are somewhat high. These bike parts are too high, this is the best bike in this segment.

I bought this bike a year back, and since then every time I ride this bike it gives me the same satisfaction every time I ride it.
The Only Cons I think are the mileage and the power drop due to the norms, other than that there is nothing I can complain about. This Bike is an experience the throttle the brakes the confidence it gives completely justify its price.
If you haven't tried it or you don't have any idea about the power that a bike can give you. This bike is your first step.

  • KTM Duke 390

    Lakshmi Narayanan

Ride safe.

Change the engine oil every 7500 kms, use engine ice as coolant, use shell power fuel only to get optimum performance, use metzeler tyres or michelin road 5's, keep optimum tyre pressure, get a visor to reach extra speeds while riding on highways. always use a good quality helmet and gloves. Dont indulge in road rage with anyone. Only you know the value of your motorcycle and dont need to prove to any random strangers on the road about your motorcycle's performance.

  • KTM Duke 390

    Lakshmi Narayanan

Ride safe.

    Tips for other riders

Change the engine oil every 7500 kms, use engine ice as coolant, use shell power fuel only to get optimum performance, use metzeler tyres or michelin road 5's, keep optimum tyre pressure, get a visor to reach extra speeds while riding on highways. always use a good quality helmet and gloves. Dont indulge in road rage with anyone. Only you know the value of your motorcycle and dont need to prove to any random strangers on the road about your motorcycle's performance.

  • Best bike according to budget

  • Best to buy

    Vishesh
