The KTM 890 Duke is a street-naked motorcycle that packs quite a lot of performance and features. It is the successor to the KTM 790 Duke that was on sale in India a few years ago. The 890 Duke builds on the strengths of that metal machine.
The styling is largely the same as that on the 790 Duke. It has an aggressive design, evident in the shape of the fuel tank, the headlight, and the exposed aluminium sub-frame.
The heart of the bike is the 889cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that makes 114bhp and 92Nm. This motor is linked to a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch. It has a vast electronics suite that includes ride modes, multi-level traction control, and ABS. The traction control and ABS are lean-sensitive.
The underpinnings of the bike include a tubular steel frame and an aluminium sub-frame which is suspended by a USD fork and a monoshock. Braking duties are taken care of by 300mm twin discs and a 240mm rear disc. The bike rides on 17-inch wheels shod with tubeless tyres.
In terms of competition, the bike goes up against the Kawasaki Z900, Triumph Street Triple R, and the Ducati Monster.
