Ridden for (If Owned) | 5000-15000 km |
Got mileage of | 35 kmpl |
I own a ktm rc 390 with slipper clutch from October, 2016. The bike is my daily commute to my collage and i have some long rides as well like vizag, gurudongmar lake (sikkim), puri (odhisha) etc.
Its been amazing with this bike. On highways its gives 35kmpl and at city 25-28kmpl.
Servicing and maintenance of regular service is around 2000/-.In which motul 10w50 engine oil will cost you 1200/- for 1.5 ltrs and if someone opt for going to motul 300v then the engine oil only will cost around 1800/-
Its amazing for highways and also did pretty well on gurudongmar's harsh terrains (but tires are a factor on those conditions).
The looks of the bike is sleek and it can cut through traffic like a hot knife through butter despite being a faired bike.
The stock metzellers will last around 12000-15000kms depending upon your riding style.
The abs is really a life saver in the streets of the country where nothing is unexpected. From people to animals, anyone can become a Olympic level jumper here and suddenly comes in front of you. The abs saved me on several occasions.
The braking had a wooden feeling which is eliminated in the 2017 variant.
Its a goliath which means by bible is a person or a thing with great power.Pretty happy with it.
thank you

This bike has brutal power throttle response so fast and braking too. Superb acceleration and top end also. It has dual channel abs which is more useful for safety nice suspension both front and rear which will give you confidence at the time of cornering and it consists of 43 bhp and 35nm which is superb.

The buying process was a bit dodgy as ktm had just set up shop in India when I purchased the bike.I bought this specifically to ride fast on an excellent stretch of road near where I lived. It did that excellently while looking sumptuous.Service and maintenance aren't too out of reach as long as one doesn't break the bike completely. If one understands the purpose of this bike there are only pros, no cons. The few niggles it had were corrected in subsequent versions. It is a brilliant example of a hardcore small sports bike. It aces that, and only that. Delivers dopamine in spades.

Ktm rc 390 long term review

I brought my bike in november 2015 and had it for more than 3 years. I use it for daily commute and i get a great mileage of 35kmpl in city.. Ride quality on city roads and highway is superb as bike feels very composed on high speeds which makes over taking easy because bike is small, nimble and agile. Bike is not made for driving on village roads or bad roads as it has a stiff suspension that makes it a very bumpy ride. It is still a head turner and performance wise it doesn't have a match in the same price category and segment. Servicing cost is also reasonable but i have broken my mirror couple of times.. And they are not cheap and easy to keep in parking as people tell tend to move it and sometimes break it in the process of taking out there own vehicle.

Rc 390

Ktm rc390 has got a fully digital instrument console which offers you 37 different pieces of information. However, a newer unit is available with ktm 390 duke. Rc390 comes with a 320mm front and 230mm rear disc brake. Also, not to forget, abs comes as a standard on rc 390. The bybre sourced disc brakes work perfectly even in case of hard braking.Since rc 390 is a premium offering, visible wires don’t really suit its personality. But i must add that the motor did feel a bit vibration on idle but once you set in motion it irons out with a raspy exhaust note in the background this continues to remain the biggest concerns with the ktm rc 390. Ktm engineers say that they have worked to direct the airflow from the fans towards the ground along with an additional exhaust fan for better cooling. But this doesn’t seem so effective when it comes to riding in real-world conditions.

This is a mad, mean machine! you will love every ride on it as long as there is no traffic. - most precise handling bike in this segment.- makes the most amount of power in this segment. 45 bhp!- lightest in this segment!- cheapest in this segment! half the price of an equivalent machine.- cheap to maintain (in contrast to kawasaki ninja 300/400 and yamaha r3) - worst choice for city commute - most uncomfortable and runs very hot- safest in this segment - best in class tyres, brakes (abs -standard)- build quality and reliability could be better - nevertheless, parts are super cheap to simply replace in comparison to competition - hell! you can buy two ktm rc390s for the price of one ninja 400!! and both come with only 45 ponies! So no right to complain!

Behold the rc 390

The first thing i will mention is. This review will be completely from my perspective and i will be brutally honest.
I have a 2016 rc 390 slipper clutch edition bs4 (as they say ). I as i earlier owned a duke 200 so i was very familiar with ktm family and they always welcome customer with smile i love their service but hate some people too within the community (not every one is perfect).
There are tons of reviews about the rc 390 which actually are on point, the bike is not for streets and bumper to bumper traffic not at all. The bike is very aggressive and very hard to run in streets because of a compression ratio close to a liter class bike (almost i.E 12:6:1) the bike will produce lots of heat in traffic, but when on highways or empty roads man o man you won't feel you are riding on a bike at all ! going for long rides will be tough you are bound to get sorebum, stressed shoulder, pain in back, but those who are used to riding rc on daily basis things they will be used to all this.
3. Looks! park the rc on a crowded street then you will get to how attractive is ktm rc 390. You can't expect a lot of fuel economy form this bike city 20-24, highways 28-30. Attention pillions you will get a hard time sitting behind a rc 390. Now braking in rc 390 (upto 2016 edition) is not upto the mark the amount of power and torque and inertia the bike produces, the brakes are not enough to contain the bike tough it comes with abs, but if you have 2017 edition the bike have amazing braking system, also good thing is you can upgrade the braking system at a very low cost rs 2000 (approx excluding tax).
2014,2015 editions of rc 390 used to have lots of vibration, 2016 got rid of that excessive vibration and 2017 edition is a blessing in disguise for the orange fans. A problem with earlier version of rc 390 (2014-2016) is that skidding while having abs, i asked many people about this it's not a problem with abs it's because of the tyres (metzellers stock) i still don't have an idea why rc will skid while having abs.
Servicing and maintenance is very cheap paid service will cost upto 2-2.5-3k not more than this( if no major issues are there), parts are always available and cheap.
Pros.
Styling,looks,beauty.
High performance,
Good stability at high speeds,
Availability of parts,
Value for money
Cons.

Low mileage,

A problem with earlier version of rc 390 (2014-2016) is that skidding while having abs, i asked many people about this it's not a problem with abs it's because of the tyres (metzellers stock) i still don't have an idea why rc will skid while having abs.
Servicing and maintenance is very cheap paid service will cost upto 2-2.5-3k not more than this( if no major issues are there), parts are always available and cheap.

This bike has brutal power throttle response so fast and braking too. Superb acceleration and top end also. It has dual channel abs which is more useful for safety nice suspension both front and rear which will give you confidence at the time of cornering and it consists of 43 bhp and 35nm which is superb.

A wonderful little toy

Hell! you can buy two ktm rc390s for the price of one ninja 400 and both come with only 45 ponies!

Anish Bidyarthy
