KTM RC 390 Summary

Price: KTM RC 390 price for its variant - RC 390 GP Edition starts at Rs. 3,21,382. The price for the other variant - RC 390 Standard is Rs. 3,21,382. The mentioned RC 390 prices are the average ex-showroom.

KTM RC 390 is a sports bike available in 2 variants and 3 colours. The KTM RC 390 is powered by 373.27cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 42.9 bhp and a torque of 37 Nm. With both front and rear disc brakes, KTM RC 390 comes up with anti-locking braking system. This RC 390 bike weighs 172 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 13.7 liters.

The 2022 KTM RC390 has been launched in the Indian market to rival the likes of the TVS Apache RR 310 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300.

The mechanical specifications retain the BS6-compliant, 373cc state-of-the-art, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC engine with twin overhead camshafts, four valves, and electronic fuel injection. The 2022 model gets a 40 per cent bigger airbox and new engine mapping that are aimed to increase torque and overall rideability. The power and torque output is rated at 42.9bhp and 35Nm, respectively. With such a good increase in performance, the KTM RC 390 has a claimed top speed of over 160kmph.

The styling changes to the 2022 model include the addition of a single-pod LED headlight, revised bodywork, 13.7-litre fuel tank, and updated seat design. The updated feature list comprises full-LED lighting, Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster, traction control system, lean-sensitive ABS, and quick-shifter as standard. The motorcycle will be offered in two colours – KTM Factory Racing Blue and KTM Orange.

Do note that unlike the international model, the India-spec KTM RC390 misses adjustable front suspension. Thus, the shock absorption tasks on the 2022 KTM RC390 are handled by WP-sourced upside-down front forks and a preload-adjustable rear mono-shock. The anchoring power comes from a 320mm disc at the front and a 280mm rotor at the back.

Certainly! Here’s a detailed overview of the KTM RC 390, covering various aspects of the motorcycle:
      1. Buying Experience
The KTM RC 390 is generally available through KTM dealerships. The buying experience often includes a test ride, which is a good opportunity to get a feel for the bike before purchasing. Dealerships typically offer various financing options and promotions. The RC 390 is positioned as a premium sports bike in the entry-level category, so expect a higher price compared to other entry-level models. The purchase process usually involves choosing between standard and optional features, such as additional accessories or extended warranties.
      2. Riding Experience
The RC 390 is known for its sporty and agile riding experience. It has a light and nimble feel, making it well-suited for both city commuting and spirited weekend rides. The bike features a responsive throttle, strong brakes, and a well-tuned suspension that provides confidence in corners and on straights. Its aerodynamic design and comfortable ergonomics cater to both track days and everyday use, though the aggressive riding position may not be ideal for long-distance touring.
      3. Details About Looks and Performance
Looks: The RC 390 sports a sharp, aggressive design with a distinctive front fairing and aerodynamic bodywork. Its sleek, race-inspired styling includes a high-mounted exhaust and LED lighting, giving it a modern, high-tech appearance.
Performance: Powered by a 373cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, the RC 390 produces around 44 horsepower and 37 Nm of torque. This engine is known for its lively performance and smooth power delivery. The bike features a six-speed gearbox and offers quick acceleration and a top speed that is impressive for its class. The suspension setup includes a WP front fork and rear mono-shock, which provides a good balance between handling and comfort.
      4. Servicing and Maintenance
The RC 390 requires regular servicing to maintain its performance and longevity. Routine maintenance includes oil changes, filter replacements, and checks on brake pads and tires. KTM dealerships and authorized service centers are equipped to handle these tasks. Parts and services are generally available, but costs can be higher compared to more mainstream brands. Regular maintenance is crucial to ensure the bike performs optimally and to prevent potential issues.
      5. Pros and Cons
      Pros:
Performance: Strong engine performance and agile handling make it a joy to ride.
Design: Eye-catching and aerodynamic styling that stands out.
Technology: Features like a full-color TFT display and advanced electronics (e.g., ride-by-wire, traction control) enhance the riding experience.
      Cons:
Comfort: Aggressive riding position may not be comfortable for long rides or commuting.
Price: Higher price point compared to other entry-level sports bikes.
Maintenance Costs: Service and parts can be more expensive compared to some other brands in the same category.
Overall, the KTM RC 390 is a great choice for riders looking for a sporty, well-designed motorcycle with strong performance, though it might not be the most practical option for everyday commuting or long-distance touring.

Best bike under 400cc segment no doubt with reasonable price. But I will not recommend it for daily commutes as it's a sports bike and it will be difficult for your pillion to sit comfortably as its seat height is very high. Overall it's a good deal according to price so, it's a yes from me or you can go for the Duke 390

      Bang for your buck!

      Arbaaz Panjwani

Cannot keep a count on the number of people who have approached me on the road to know more about the bike.
The bike has superior handling characteristics, and smooth power delivery ( not as aggressive as the previous gen duke/rc) which can upset a few people.
The stock tyres (sportec m5s) provide excellent cornering grip, and moderate grip in wet conditions and is a bit prone to punctures if driven on bad roads. I have been struggling to get aftermarket parts for this bike (like visor, cellphone mount, seat cowl, exhaust pipes, winglets, wrap kit, etc).
The braking performance on this bike is out of the league when compared to bikes from the same category. It has a good initial bite and doesn't fade on extreme use.
I am very impressed with the top-notch features like cornering Abs and traction control, which is noticeable when ridden hard and has proved to improve lap times on the race track.
The bike should have come with adjustable front suspension as it is now being offered on bikes from a similar segment (rr310/duke390/adv390).
The fuel consumption mentioned below is an estimate. It can greatly vary depending on the riding conditions. It can offer great mileage on the highways and can return the litre-class average when ridden in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
One of the issues that concerned me was the time when the TFT display started flickering however it got back to normal after being parked for a few hours. When checked with the service centre about this issue, they said it is because the bike heating up and it stops flickering when the bike cools down. (It actually did stop when the bike cooled down but not sure if that is the actual reason.

Had some issues with the kill switch not responding however a burst of WD-40 fixed it right away. secondly the rear break makes a very unpleasant sound when applied aggressively and hasn't been resolved even after getting it cleaned at the service center.
