Royal Enfield has been spied testing the new Thunderbird X a couple of times before. But this time, we bring you close-up images that reveal more details about the upcoming motorcycle.
The new Thunderbird retains the cruiser design silhouette of the current generation motorcycle. However it gets a few changes to set it apart.
There is the new round LED DRL in the headlamp which is flanked by conventionally-lit turn indicators.
It also gets redesigned side panels and at the rear, the new Thunderbird sports a circular tail lamp and low-set turn indicators.
Royal Enfield has also equipped the motorcycle with new seats for the rider and pillion that appear to be well-cushioned.
The other important update to the new Thunderbird is the new single-pod instrument console which gets a LCD screen in between the analogue speedometer.
The motorcycle also gets new, retro-inspired toggle switches for the high-beam and ignition. It also comes with new handgrips.
It will either come powered by a BS6 compliant version of the 346cc engine or bigger engine derived from the Himalayan. The 499cc mills, on the other hand are likely to be discontinued by next year due to low sales.
The bike’s final drive has also been shifted to the left side whereas the disc brake is on the right for better dynamics.
Suspension and braking hardware are carried forward from the current Thunderbird. However, the motorcycle now rides on alloy wheels instead of spoke wheels. Royal Enfield is expected to launch the new Thunderbird early next year priced at a premium of Rs 15,000-Rs 20,000 over the current models.
