Yamaha Ray ZR 125 Summary

Price: Yamaha Ray ZR 125 price for its variant - Ray ZR 125 Drum starts at Rs. 87,081. The price for the other variants - Ray ZR 125 Disc, Ray ZR 125 Street Rally - Matte Copper and Ray ZR 125 Street Rally - Matte Black and Light Grey are Rs. 93,587, Rs. 98,084 and Rs. 99,084. The mentioned Ray ZR 125 prices are the average ex-showroom.

Yamaha Ray ZR 125 is a mileage scooter available in 4 variants and 12 colours. The Yamaha Ray ZR 125 is powered by 125cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 8.04 bhp and a torque of 10.3 Nm. With both front and rear drum brakes, Yamaha Ray ZR 125 comes up with combined braking system of both wheels. This Ray ZR 125 scooter weighs 99 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 5.2 liters.

The Yamaha Ray ZR 125 is a sporty hybrid engine-powered scooter, which mainly targets young buyers. While the standard trim itself looks rugged and radical, the Street Rally trim offers more visual drama with the presence of knuckle guards. In total, it is available in six variants, which differ on the visual and hardware front.

Powering the scooter is a 125cc, air-cooled motor that produces 8.04bhp and 10.03Nm. This hybrid engine works in tandem with a battery to help extract 16 per cent more mileage while producing 30 per cent more torque than its predecessor.

The feature list on this 125cc hybrid scooter includes Bluetooth connectivity that works with the Y-Connect smartphone application. This app includes a fuel consumption tracker, maintenance recommendations, last parking location, malfunction notification, revs dashboard, and rider ranking. However, Bluetooth is available only in select variants.

Features that are common across all variants include the Intelligent Power Assist system that is said to deliver an additional thrust, utilising the Smart Motor Generator (SMG) system. The SMG system, which is available in all 125cc Yamaha scooters, doubles up as an electric motor to offer additional linear power when the rider accelerates from a stop or while climbing steep inclines. Plus, the Ray ZR 125 also offers an automatic stop and start system, side-stand engine cut-off function, and a combined braking system.

The suspension hardware comprises telescopic front forks and a rear spring, while the anchoring setup on the base model includes drum brakes on both wheels. The premium variant benefits from a disc setup at the front. The scooter rides on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear alloy wheels that are shod in tubeless tyres.

Yamaha Ray ZR 125 Review

  • Good Things

    • The design language is quite retro
    • 125cc engine is refined
    • Comes with cool rally variant
  • Could be Better

    • Doesn’t get USB charging as standard
    • Gets smaller floorboard
    • Overall quality could have been better

BikeWale's Take

The Ray ZR 125 is a brand new scooter from Yamaha. It gets distinctive styling and is loaded with design cues that looks quite trendy. It is also available in some fancy paint schemes. The 125cc engine is fuel-injected and performs decently. But the company should have worked a bit more on improving the overall quality of the scooter.

      RayZR, not suitable for...

      K Venkatesan

It is not suitable for Indian conditions because cables and sensors fail due to dust and rain. The mileage is good. Speed is not increasing above 80, difficult to drive in the wind. Not suits for ladies.
The buy experience is not bad
      Riding: Not satisfied
      Performance: up to the mark
      Service: ok
P & C: Needs to improve quality because already I got a free parts replacement call from Yamaha due to an assembly error.
