Royal Enfield Continental GT launched for Rs 2.05 lakh

Royal Enfield has launched the all-new Continental GT café racer for a starting price of Rs 2.05 lakh (On road Delhi). The new top-of-the-line Royal Enfield is the first Café racer in the company’s range, creating a niche for itself in the Indian market.

The new bike is powered by a 535cc single-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed gearbox putting out 29.1bhp at 5,100rpm and max torque of 44Nm at 4,000rpm. The Continental GT is being built at RE’s new Chennai plant for both domestic and export markets. In fact the company has already commenced exports of the new model.

The Continental GT has classic café racer design including single seat, low-slung handle bars and sculpted tank. It gets sticky Pirelli Sport Demon tyres and has the ability to comfortably cruise at speeds beyond 100kph. The instrument cluster is typical RE with round cluster and digital trip meter. The Continental GT is available in two colours – Royal Red and GT Yellow. Royal Enfield has also unveiled a range of accessories for the new bike, which will be available through their dealerships.

We had an opportunity to ride the Continental GT in Goa today, stay tuned to BikeWale as we bring you the first drive report of the first café racer in India. The on-road Mumbai price of the new Royal Enfield is Rs 2.14 lakh.

Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director and CEO, Eicher Motors Limited (the parent company of Royal Enfield), said, “The Continental GT is inspired by the café racers of the 1960s in its form and simplicity; and it captures the feeling of freedom, fun and responsiveness that riders were trying to achieve then and brings it into the modern context."

"It is the definitive classic sports motorcycle to have. In the best café racer traditions, the bike is simple and devoid of the excesses that characterise the cruisers and the superbikes of today. At the same time it has been designed ground up, incorporating both traditional craftsmanship and relevant modern techniques at our state-of-the-art new plant in Oragadam to deliver a deeply engaging motorcycling experience that is unlike any other,” he added.
