BMW Motorrad has invited the best GS riders in the world to take part in the International GS Trophy to be held in Thailand from 28 February to 5 March 2016.
The GS Trophy will comprise of several daily legs and a number of exciting special stages. National qualifying rounds were carried out earlier and have led to the formation of 19 international teams. This includes, for the first time, one team solely comprising of female riders. They will face what is deemed to be a major battle of strength and capability for participants and the bikes alike. For seven days, all the riders will be competing against each other, riding through the exhilarating landscape of Chiang Mai Province in the north of Thailand.
Making sure that the riders in the competition have the right vehicles at their disposal, a total of 114 BMW R1200GS motorcycles are being transported by sea to Thailand. This will include 14 BMW 1200 GS Adventure bikes for the marshals to enforce the rules of the event. The motorcycles have left the BMW Motorrad headquarters in Munich and will take 40 days from setting sail in Hamburg to arriving at the destination port of Laem Chabang.
