Bajaj has announced plans to launch the V12 at Rs 56,200 (ex-showroom, Delhi). A smaller version of the V15, the V12 is powered by a 125cc DTS-i engine.
The Bajaj V12 will carry forward the design of the V15.The sculpted fuel tank, chrome-rimmed headlamp and tail lamp attempt to give it a neo retro look. The handlebar and the neutral set footpegs give it the typical commuter bike seating position. It will also get the removable rear cowl which can convert the V12 into a single seater. The analogue instrument cluster gets a basic and minimalistic design. While Bajaj hasn’t revealed technical details about this motorcycle, we can expect the 125cc air-cooled DTS-i engine to be a downsized version of the V15’s engine.
The Bajaj V12 will be positioned between the Discover 125 and the Pulsar 135. Having established a good hold in the 150cc commuter bike segment, Bajaj will now attempt to capitalise on the V15’s popularity with the new V12. While the Discover 125 is a basic no frills commuter bike, the V12 will be pegged as a premium offering targeted at those who want a stylish and efficient motorcycle. It will compete with the Hero Glamour, Honda CB Shine, TVS Phoenix and the Yamaha Saluto.
