BMW-TVS alliance is developing a range of sub-500cc motorcycles that will be launched over the period of next three years. The company hasn't disclosed the exact models but Visordown has reported that the range will include 250cc naked and adventure motorcycles. There is also a possibility of the German-Indian alliance going below 250cc.
The sub-500cc segment is currently growing faster than the litre class. Many manufacturers are switching their focus onto this segment as it is easily reachable, practical and affordable. These new range of motorcycles will mainly be targeted towards developing markets like India.
BMW and TVS have signed a major technology agreementunder which the companies will develop sub-500cc motorcycles. Both companies will jointly produce and sell the new motorcycles in India and the global market.BMW does not have a motorcycle under 500cc – currently the G 650GS is the smallest capacity motorcycle for the German brand. On the other hand, TVS sells mostly commuter motorcycles and this venture will allow them entry in to the premium motorcycles segment.
